I think a lot of it is people rationalizing to themselves their decisions. Some of the nastiest oil debates I've seen involved people buying high priced oil (like Motul) who changed it every 3,000 miles on a street driven, lightly modified, never tracked vehicle.
So after doing more research, I think my list of options is:
Elka
Dirt King
Bilstein 6112/6100 (or 8112/8100 if they become available)
Ride
I know people are starting to get the 6112s and are posting reviews. Anyone have the Ride shocks yet?
Totally agree with you, man. I've been around long enough to see people recommending all kinds of products with dubious claims that were never objectively verified or that, in some cases, were proven to be non-sense.
My experience with used oil analyses does not support this idea of turbos needing low mileage oil changes. I tracked a lot of oil changes on my 2007 WRX and then 2006 STI. I used Rotella T5 or T6, whatever was there. I was getting over 7500 miles, with plenty left on the oil. This is even will...
I do miss the power and sound; it's hard to match a 5L V8 that revs to 7200. That said, the IS500 was not a good year round car for someone living anywhere that gets real snow. That was the main motivation for the switch. I do also like being back in a manual.
Tossed in the TripleALiner bed mat:
I also tried to install their tailgate mat. I stopped partway through as it was getting frustrating. The holes, necessary for the install, are not pre-drilled. I don't know why. This makes it a pain in the butt to install as the holes need to be fairly...
Also interested in this. For what it's worth, I have the Falkens on my other truck, GMC 3500 dually, and like them. I also know a few people with the Toyos that like them.
