I did the same thing on my TRD OR a couple days ago, except I went with 285/70-17 for the KO3’s. I did a similar comparison to yours, and considered various sizes, and ended up with this selection. I’ve only done 70-80 miles so far, much of it during heavy rain & wind, and I’m pleased so far.
Yikes! I drove home about 50 miles from the tire shop in heavy rain and wind, on twisty foothills roads. And I went out yesterday during some rain here. So far, so good, it seems firmly planted on the road. I’m looking forward to trying them in some snow too.
The same thing is true of the OEM Trail Terrains that came on my TRD OR. Even though the regular BFG Trail Terrain has the 3PMSF rating, the Toyota version does not. Also I saw a review that said the tread depth is less on the Toyota scaled down version.
I drove in snow once with the OEM tires...
Wow, you really went all-in. I’m Part 107 too but I go for a more stealth approach whenever possible. :) I can see how some situations require more visibility though.
I find myself switching back and forth when there’s alternating snow and dry pavement. I’m worried about over-stressing the drivetrain in 4WD on a solid surface.
My little bit of testing so far has shown the OEM version of the Trail Terrains are terrible in the snow here (Sierra). Not just in the back with the empty bed, but even the front. I’m shopping for 3PMSF tires.
Also while driving in the snow, the snow builds up and blocks the radar, causing...
I subscribed to the trial, but didn’t use it even once, so didn’t renew it for the paid plan when the trial expired. I thought it might be handy to have their AT&T connection for situations where my Verizon service is unavailable. But for now I’m opting to not spend the extra money on another...
I drove my TRD OR with the stock 265/70-17 BFG All Terrains (Toyota OEM version) in about an inch of Sierra snow at about 34 degrees this week. It was scary. I thought I was going to go off the road multiple times. I didn’t air down (it was about 31 psi) as I was doing a mix of bare pavement and...
Thanks for the tips. I live in a forest, so I wouldn't do it outdoors (tree debris, and dust). It would be in my garage, which this time of year would be in the 50's and 60's. I figure even if the supplies cost a couple hundred $$ it would still be worth my time to do it myself, as long as I can...
Did you have any issues getting this done? I'm thinking about doing it myself vs paying $1,400 for a professional, but I'm concerned about messing it up. Have you done it before or was this your first time? I've done multi-step prep/wax before, but never ceramic.
I hope you’ll post updates on this as it progresses. Reading this (especially the no loaner thing) is very troubling - my purchase dealer is 100 miles away and the closest dealer is 60 miles. This is my only vehicle and I drive a lot in off-grid areas. Yikes!
I recently picked up a 2024 TRD OR with the TRD Upgrade package, and am considering a tire upgrade. However with all the electronics in these vehicles I'm concerned about the impact of changing the tire size. It could impact how everything works, from the speedometer, odometer, or even how the...
I don't have the Trailhunter, but faced the same question before buying my TRD Off-Road with 5 ft bed. I planned to buy 6' for more utility, like home store trips, etc. But I drove both 5 and 6 foot models and the 6 foot felt noticeably more cumbersome to maneuver. And I would have had the same...
