I don't use the app much, but I also have not had a problem with keeping my 12v charged. I think it is a bigger problem with an electric, than a hybrid. I also think that if an alternator is needed in our hybrids they should do something for us, but I am not really expecting that they will.
In my wife's Lexus BEV it is the app that causes the battery to discharge. If she remains logged into the app the vehicle's status updates to the app server runs down the car's battery. I am guessing that is why they put the alternator on 2025 hybrids.
Yep - they are hiding everywhere along the road, measuring you speed from airplanes and will confiscate a radar detector if they find one during a stop. These people are crazy!
I'm still grinning after six months and loving every drive! I live in Virginia and it is amazing that I have not gotten a ticket. More than once I just accelerated out of a situation on the freeway and then looked down and I was going between 90 and 100 mph. Acceleration in these trucks is so...
I live in speed control central here in Virginia, where speeding is treated like one of the seven deadly sins. But even here driving 65 mph on interstates is not safe. Not only would most cars be passing you, but also most commercial trucks. You would be a rolling road block, and a real danger...
I contacted Toyota Brand Engagement about concerns with my transmission. I learned that it is their policy to go only through their dealers with issues like yours. So first you have to take it to the dealer and they will decide what happens next. If they agree there is a problem Toyota will take...
A lot of the parts going into Toyota products arrive at the factory the same day they are installed. Toyota just in time manufacturing saves them money, but means they can't pull parts or it all falls apart.
Our trucks are already sold, Toyota has to build more to make more money instead of...
That is even stranger. Why would some 2025 hybrids have an alternator and some not? Toyota production standards have gotten very loose and very weird these days.
Very cool! I'm really glad Terra stayed in the lineup after they replaced it in the Pro.
Your truck is going to be beautiful. I haven't seen a Terra OR on the street yet, so please post some pictures once you pick that bad boy up.
The Terra paint still makes me smile every time I see my truck. It looks a lot different depending on the time of day and direction of the light, and always beautiful and unique. Mine was the first at my dealer, and my salesperson said people were practically licking the paint off the truck. lol
In our 2024 hybrids the 12 v battery is charged by the traction motor when it is regenning, which is just part of the time. That regen power is also being used to charge the traction battery, so the 12v charge rate is pretty low. The alternator would charge the 12v anytime the ICE is running...
I'm sure they could, but as you point out, it would be a lot more complicated than just bolting one onto the engine.
Unless they get a lot of complaints I don't think they will do anything. Even if they get pressured the most I would expect is a TSB for people with dead 12v batteries on a...
Good point! Toyota knows there is some issue, or they would not have added an expensive component like an alternator. But will they do anything for 2024 hybrid owners? The old Toyota would have, but things are different today and I kind of doubt that they will.
I think it is related to ensuring that the 12v battery stays charged. In my wife's Lexus BEV the official cause of 12v battery discharge is the Lexus app. As long as you are logged in the car sends regular status updates to the app server, and if the car is not driven for a while that will run...
Yep - no alternator on my 2024 Pro. It charges strictly from the traction motor.
Some hybrids and many electrics have trouble keeping their 12 volt batteries charged. My wife went 5 days without driving her BEV and we had to jump it, even though it had a full traction battery.
I guess Toyota...
Better mudflaps definitely helped my truck, but what really saves the sides are the RCI sliders.
Unless you have a slider or step down there I think you will always have a chip problem
@james cole The best I could do to get an objective measurement was from the inside of the rim to the outside of the frame. Mine is shifted about 1/8" to the passenger side by that, but I have no idea how accurate that is. I also don't know what an acceptable tolerance is or if that could cause...
