Has anyone in this discussion had their truck actually not start? Until that happens I don’t see the issue. I’ve left my truck for weeks (maybe a month?) and it fires right up.
I have the firestone airbags, which work great, but the rear stock Off Road shocks don't damp out the bounces after a bump as fast as I'd like when I have my camper on (1000 pounds). Has anyone upgraded rear shocks that deal with the heavier loads?
In an ideal world these shocks would also...
I'm interested in putting a DC-DC charger in my truck camper so I can charge the house battery in the camper while driving. But, I know DC-DC chargers need to have an extra wire hooked to an ACC powered source if a smart alternator is installed in the vehicle. Anyone know if I've got a smart...
Not a pull behind trailer, but I put a Kimbo camper on and drove it from Bellingham, WA to the Oregon Coast. Camper weighs around 1,000 lbs. I have the Ride-Rite airbags but that's about it for upgrades to suspension. Drives great! Mileage went from ~23 mpg on I-5 to ~17mpg. I drive like an...
Camper is on and works great! I did need to purchase 2 of Kimbos rubber mats to between the truck bed and camper instead of just one. The bed rails are tall enough that they were going to be connecting with the bolt heads of the jack stand supports.
No problem reattaching headliner. It’s mostly just shoving the headliner edge back under the rubber door moldings.
The new location of the antenna is directly under the top surface of the dashboard, forward of the gauge cluster. No wires above it. Sort of a perfect place it seemed to me. So...
I'm sure there's better ways to deal with the antenna if you don't have to completely make it disappear like I did. Just thought I'd post this for those that need to get it out of the way entirely.
That's better than any I found, but it looks like about the same height as ours, except that the wiring to connectors is totally different.
I think when they say "low profile" they are talking about lower profile than a whip antenna.
I needed to remove my shark fin antenna so a slide-in camper would have enough clearance above the roof. Here's some of the highlights of what I did:
First, drop the headliner near the rear window:
Unlike past generations, the rear hangers don't twist to remove. You need to pop off the cover...
Does anyone know the torque for the propeller shaft bolts? I've found posts about the torque on gen 3 and 2, but not gen 4 trucks. And I don't see the torque listed on the map.
Anyone seen a cover for the sharkfin antenna that is flat? I'm hoping to place my sharkfin antenna in the dash and cover the leftover hole with a flat piece.
The camper cab over for the the camper I want will hit the sharkfin and I don't want to raise the camper if I don't have to.
I could, but that unnecessarily raises the center of gravity of the vehicle and camper. Campers are already quite a heavy load for mid-sized trucks so keeping the CG low is very helpful.
