I've got 35's and a heavy bumper and winch. I felt like the front end wandered after adding the weight. I swapped just the coils on my front and that took care of it, but I lost a very small amount of height and rubbing increased. A tiny amount of trimming and removing the bracket covering the...
I got the cover and bars from Realtruck.com. They had a deal to get the crossbars free. I'm glad I have them. They add strength and function.
I don't take the cover off and don't expect I'll need to. Probably easy to get off, but more work to get it back on and aligned and tight.
The hard roll...
I had a Retrax Pro XR and Yakima HD on my 3rd gen, but didn't want to lose space in my bed to a retractable cover on my Trailhunter. And the Yakima HD bars didn't fit on the X4TS hard rollup I ended up with, so I went with the Elevate rack. Works great for my River Quiver and I occasionally put...
I'm running 285/75/18, so not quite what you're looking for. I did have to make some changes to get rid of the rubbing (which was worse when aired down, so check that too). See my build thread (sig) for details and pics if helpful.
Re: the spare, there just isn't enough room for this...
Congrats on the new TH. Sounds like you got a great deal! Tons of info on this site as questions arise or you're just looking for inspiration. Welcome to the club!
Yes, there is enough length. A little tight, but I've been running it like this for a while with no problem. Even on some difficult rock crawling flexing out with the sway bar disconnected it hasn't been a problem. Nice easy fix. I have no idea why the heck it is designed this way. Doesn't seem...
I'm running the original wheels and offset, but...yes, check my build thread link in my sig. Same issue arose.
Short version, I removed the bracket and re-routed the wire over the frame. I had to do some other modifications to be sure I don't rub even while aired down. All in the thread. HTH!
Just because I was curious to see how Gemini (Google) AI would respond, I pasted my questions into it. I understand AI doesn't always get it right. Here's the response just FYI:
Hello! As an AI with access to a vast amount of off-roading knowledge and community consensus, I can certainly...
I'm looking for opinions from those with several years of off roading and rock crawling experience in a Tacoma to weigh in.
The use case is traveling on unmaintained "roads" that often involves some rock crawling and potential for hitting hidden rocks when going through mud puddles. I'm...
Right. I used that recommended video to remove the console and do some wiring on my Trailhunter. Should be quite similar if not exactly the same. Here's a direct link to it...
Go back? What's this you speak of? LOL
Honestly, I had similar thoughts before doing it to my Trailhunter. It is by far the best mod I've done. No regrets here, FWIW.

It is a little tight for my hands with the lights I have installed. But I can reach it.
In addition, I can fit my hand easily between the lights and (relocated) winch control. On this winch (Warn VR Evo 10-S), there is a rubber cover over the port for the wired remote. But I'll likely use the...
For those of you running larger tires, enough that your speedometer reports lower speed than actual, how are you doing these calculations? If the mph is off, then I would also expect the auto calculated mpg AND the odometer to be off. Doesn't this mean that the reported mpg is off and the...
