@vitriol, I got plenty of those, my friend! Let me know if you need any more and I'll send it out for free (fun fact: ~15% of all items purchased from online stores are returned. We've thrown a ton of harnesses out because customers hate buying refurbed units)
April 18 updates!
I wanted to do some data-logging to see how much fuse capacity was overhead... it can seem sketchy plugging something directly into the TSS Lane Trace assist, but I've been wanting to demonstrate why it isn't as risky as you think... some of the companies that have cloned my...
Also a sneak peak of our most premium product lines:
It's a new from-scratch design with a better microcontroller and on-board memory, power-electronics allowing us to do all sorts of tricks like emulating proprietary hardwire kits (some dashcams have non-standard USB ports to pass through IGN...
A few updates on our latest Dongar PRO build:
-a real instruction manual is included
-the length of the wire harnesses is improved
-the 5-pin harness is now male+female (in case you want to add a second adapter or even the OEM toyota dashcam in-addition to the Dongar) but also makes it easier...
What's up T4G!
I thought I'd start posting on the boards again to keep my mind off of international trade (PS Dongar is owned and operated by US-born car enthusiasts in a multi-generational Tacoma family haha, but leans on external-US factories).
Thought you guys would like my newest...
@BoboForShort no worries, I just updated my post with more technical info :). I'm super glad you posted your DIY tutorial though... the tacoma community is filled with the best DIY'ers out there and its feedback like yours which helps us make the best products and keep the enthusiasts informed...
Unfortunately this is incorrect. Viofo's parking mode needs their hardwire kit or kits using the same pinout, meaning that not all kits with ACC + constant + gnd will trigger their parking mode. Viofo uses a non-standard implementation (aka proprietary pinout) USB-C, which is how it feeds the...
Hi All, sorry for being absent from this forum... it's been painfully busy and I needed to take a long break.
Quick updates:
Whining USB Modules
For anybody who had a "whining" USB module-I have fixed units where we've revised some of the internal components. Please send an email with your...
@goin2drt so there should be footage while the truck was parked. When parked, it would operate the same way it does when driving. The PRO adapter is simply a powered (data-less) USB port that stays on. In the 'T' setting you have it in, it's on a 4hr timer so you should see 4hr worth of recorded...
@goin2drt do you mean it was not recording at all while parked?
It appears there's confusion about what functionality the Dongar PRO is responsible for versus the dashcam. The Dongar PRO simply provides power while the vehicle is off, just like the majority of hardwire kits on the market...
@RigidYota thanks for the feedback re: the whine... I promise we'll get it fixed, we ordered the components and getting the PCBAs made asap. It was just not something we expected because it's very current dependent and we focused all our testing on high power. Just curious if you tried plugging...
@RigidYota congratulations on having really good hearing! There's a slight coil whine when the adapter outputs in the 300mA-650mA range which is a byproduct of normal operation. The whine is only at that operation range and in fact goes completely away at higher power (plug in an iPhone, laptop...
@sunfm so I checked with my shipping rep and it sounds like the Canadapost strike means timely passage of imports can’t be guaranteed…so it was removed as an option until it’s resolved. USPS uses Canadapost as a final mile courier so unfortunately it would have the same issue. I’m asking them to...
@ChrisC regarding Nexar. Their OBD adapter is just a USB-C adapter hooked up to the OBD port, which has constant-power. It basically achieves the same thing as Dongar PRO which also supplies USB-C.
@Mini2nut let me know how the E360 goes! I got to see the unit at SEMA and tbh it’s much heftier than I was hoping..definitely a little hefty to use as an action cam, as they’re pitching. Vantrue has made some generally great cameras nonetheless.
Thanks for the heads up! I haven’t heard about this but there would be no issues using this… the BlackVue input is a simple 12V and our PRO adapter allows 12V. Note on the BlackVue page it says it doesn’t support parking mode, but I think they probably did this assuming (correctly) that USB-C...
