Interesting, when I use the controller to apply the trailer brakes no lights come on. (I have the brake lights on the dash turned off). But then the only reason to apply the brakes via the controller is to stop a sway or to set the gain.
Nice job, I knew those connections had to be in there somewhere. I may have to rewire my Redarc controller installation. I put a diode between the controller and the brake signal wire to prevent any feedback from the controller to the truck electronics when I use the controller to apply the...
There was a thread about a year ago on installing a Redarc brake controller with instructions attached as a word document. I used it and added an improvement I discovered. The procedure had you cut into a harness in the drivers side rear door opening to get a brake signal wire. In hindsight I...
USB-C is particular about the type of adapter you use. Some are just for charging/power. You may need to get one that is certified for data transmission.
Are these the shots you wanted? One thing I'll mention is that the gate is way up there when open. I'm 6ft and can barely reach it. I've thought of tying a rope to the inside handle.
I guess I'm the exception. I like it. As long as you stay centered in your lane and signal lane changes it never kicks in. But I do sometimes drift and it lets me know.
I went with pretty much a plain Jane topper from ARE but with an extended top. I can throw an air mattress in the back and have plenty of head room. I can also put three bikes in there standing up with the wheels on. Maybe four. There are options for power locks, side window that open and lots more.
I think that Toyota used to use the same wiring harness for all trucks that included the plug for the brake controller. Either they wanted to discourage aftermarket controllers or the price of copper made it economical to have two separate harnesses for with and without the factory brake...
For J7 I assume you mean the wire from the 7 pin plug that powers the brakes on your trailer. It runs from the plug to under the rear seat on the passenger side. (the heavy blue wire). You can run a wire along the harness that is beneath the trim at the door openings either on the left or right.
I'm not an electronics expert but I believe it would be called a zener diode, the most common kind. I used a 20A - 50V but your 15a / 45V should be fine. You want power to be able to flow from the truck to the brake light and controller but not from the controller to the truck.
Assuming the dealer has a good wiring diagram that same wire has to be under the dash somewhere and would be much easier the tap into there. Just be sure to use a diode to prevent back-feed from the controller.
The 2024 wiring is completely different. The easy plug under the dash is no longer there. I suspect it is because of the all led lighting and all the other bells and whistles like adaptive cruise control. I went back and forth with Redarc when trying to install mine. They were not aware of the...
Haha, that's not a spray in bed liner. I thought the same about mine at first. The entire bed is a composite. (fiberglass filled nylon or something of the sort) Take a look underneath and you can see. I haven't decided if that's a plus or minus but it's light weight and will never rust. You'll...
