  1. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

I would say this a properly oiled and maintained gauze oil filter does an OK job of filtration vs the OEM filter does an excellent job and if it is a little dirty does an even better job.
  2. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

True dat, Cobb does say it DOES NOT leave a flash count. I've been modifying new cars since the 70s, and one of my friends from the 70s would always "stock is best for guys that don't know how to work on cars". For me the vast majority of my cars still had paper plates when the the car was...
  3. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

I kind of lean that way too, hence I went with intercooler, tune, and for now a hole cut in the air box facing the fender for a little sound. If I do an exhaust it will be a true 3" to the turbo downpipe and reasonably quite. Hard to beat the stock 2.5 muffler as that sucker is huge had no...
  4. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

Good to know, every vehicle is different.
  5. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

hence I will wait for a turbo, as the factory turbo is limited and a CAI is NOT going to get to where I need to go. That said if you are OK with ending at a CAI, I like the Banks; but IMO the money would be better spent on an intercooler which "frees up some HP" and helps in overall...
  6. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

just a sample of Grok and I talking about the stock turbo: Is this wheel used on a stock application? Nope — this is 100% an aftermarket upgrade wheel, not stock. Stock IHI VB51 (factory on the 2024+ Tacoma 2.4T) uses a smaller cast compressor wheel (roughly 45mm inducer range) with fewer...
  7. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

It is a minor quibble. I said it reduces pumping loss which is 100$ equivalent to "breathe easier". You say "HP increase" which is NOT 100% equivalent to "free up power". Yes some HP is loss due to the slightly less dense air from say the stock system at the turbo inlet pipe (since all these...
  8. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

As an aside, I will note the Cobb Tuning drop-in filter does say "increase HP". Their CAI system which has a "normal" MAF housing i.e. is is the same area as stock and is smooth not tapered will tend to read more like the factory system and NOT effect the air fuel ratio. Cobb list no HP gain...
  9. SXTH Vs. Banks (Intake & Boost Tubes)

It has been my experience going back to imported 3TG hemi Corolla engines in the 1970s, that turbo engines are relatively insensitive to intakes. The boost is controlled by engine control and the turbo needs a little bit more energy to make up for any pressure drop in the intake. Since these...
  10. 35x11.5R16 factory lifted Tacoma.

    16" will not fit 17" barely clear/
  11. lifted Tacomas getting insurance cancelled Torque News reports

I would bet the OEM Toyota dealler installed lift would NOT up the insurance.
  12. Tuning the SR’s detuned engine

I now have both the Cobb tune and the Camtuning tune and will give a better longer review later. First both vendors were excellent and responsive. The Camtuning was built for my SR with flowmaster muffler, and 92 octane. The truck is traction limited on 265 K03 in can even get a little...
  13. STILLEN Air Intake Box & Dyno Results for 2024 Tacoma

highly doubt if the box will hose anything or that the data logs would show anything, come now what is the pressure drop in the stock setup? Say sub .25 PSI. What is the pressure drop when I drive home from work (sea level to 2800 feet). 14.7 PSI - 13.26 PSI, say 1.5 PSI. Ya think Toyota is...
  14. STILLEN Air Intake Box & Dyno Results for 2024 Tacoma

IMO, ALL filters box whatever must use the stock MAF diameter so I'm not buying (pun intended) any massive changes. What if a box does not use the stock MAF diameter? simple the MAF reading is hosed which ain't good for power. One probably could just leave hood open, take off filer and prop...
  15. Speculation on future performance upgrades?

I think a downpipe with a 3" metalic cat will be made. Turbo engines do well in general with a downpipe. It won't pass CARB, but it will NOT have a check engine light and do a good job of taming down turbo exhaust noise.
  16. Speculation on future performance upgrades?

All modern cars that I know of have a transmission control computer that does indeed remember things like torque overloads and write this into permanent memory. Sometimes putting the car into permanent limp home mode.
  17. SR/SR5 XtraCab mechanical differences?

SR also comes with a "TRD resonator" delete FREE, everyone else has to pay for a TRD exhaust... LOL... sounds the same, weighs less and cost nothing to boot.
  18. SR/SR5 XtraCab mechanical differences?

Yes, the factory "cooler" is an oil to water heat exchanger, basically taking 270 degree oil and heating 230 degree cooling system water a little bit. Vs a real oil cooler that sits in front of the radiator taking 270 degree and cooling it with 80 degree air.
  19. Raptor style amber lights in hood scoop

I usually don't reply in the negative; however IMO the Taco hood scoop is the ugliest thing on the planet and the best mod IMO is to unglue it and toss it in the trash can.
