I usually have it in the high-torque range, mid-range of those settings. I'm just aiming for a linear slope of the throttle map. Wakes up the response and "makes it feel how it should be".
Love the pedal monster so much on my Tacoma that I ordered one for my Miata, which I feel would benefit from it even more. After the two-week wait, it arrived and I was stoked to install it today. Unfortunately, I got shipped two stand-alone kits. 🤦‍♂️
What actually matters is the temp of the oil at the rings, in the bearings, and in the turbo, which is different from where it's measured at the sensor. Speed Jr mentions this in a video, some capillary tubing used to sample oil from the rings. will try to find that.
On the Banks iDash. I also have temp sensors going to my MT and Rear Diff fill plugs.
Regarding weights being weights and they're all the same, this is unconfirmed and not published, but ratings were posted on the forums, a reply from Valovline support regarding their HTHS values...
Those seem high to me.
I'm at sea level on the coast and sit at 200-205f at my usual cruising speed of 72/73 mph.
The only time I've seen oil temps up there was up a grade at speed in Death Valley at about 95 degrees. On a banks iDash for what it's worth. Also interesting that oil pressure...
That's why I've been hesitant to conclude that moving from 0W-20 to 5W-30 will measurably improve long-term durability in the T24A-FTS. It may, or it may not—but I don't think we've seen evidence strong enough to isolate viscosity from all the other variables yet.
For that, I lean on what we...
There are MANY variables in play when it comes to engine wear and longevity: the nature of the miles driven/miles per cold start, load placed on the engine before reaching operating temperature, load placed on the engine generally (towing/climbing grades), average engine speed, total vehicle...
"The data clearly says the best oil for a Duramax engine is not the one they send
it with."
@DENNISD
The closest thing to the testing you've been asking for. Enjoy this one.
The double dash mount is on your website.

Started with a single, went to a double, neither cleared the visor.
You can save and restore one layout, not two, that's what I'd like resolved in the app.
I'm a fan of the banks ecosystem. Their parts are well-designed, very well supported, and the only brand with road-legal parts in CA. I have dual idash, pedal monster, and sensor expansion. I won't be getting the intake because of the filter, but I have boost tubes ready to install, and I'm...
I have that intake elbow and noticed no difference in sound from the turbo. I went with it for smoother airflow, but I can't say I notice a difference in sound or MPG.
I can't think of anyone, or a company, that would front the bucks to quantify that. So it's an easy position to take because there will never be evidence to "disprove" the logic, but absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence.
I remember my high school auto teacher saying Ford would change...
@DENNISD Fixed it for you.
That’s actually a pretty reasonable approach, especially how you phased things in after break-in. You’re right about the 0W rating maintaining strong cold-start flow, which is a big deal in modern engines with tight tolerances and turbo components, but only for...
Yeah, and despite that, it would still make perfect sense to go with 5-30. "Gut instinct" has nothing to do with it.
The reason it's more likely to shear out of grade is the gap between the base weight and the operating viscosity. More viscosity modifiers are required to take a 5w base weight...
