that’s exactly what I was thinking, would be a great spot for a custom fit tray / vertical wall or something.
Not so many handguns north of the border. Maybe I can fit a bottle of maple syrup in there.
Aesthetically I agree that they look a little bit short on the 6’ bed, especially on the sport/window version, and I think the cap on a 5 foot bed looks a bit better proportioned as a result. Functionally, they give good access, I can reach all the corners, it’s definitely not a dealbreaker.
Hahaha glad to see everyone else is just as lost as me.
wallet never leaves my pocket and sunnies in the overhead. I feel like I would throw my phone there if it wasn’t so deep, it inevitably falls over and then I can’t get it out
I don’t know what to call this … shifter-side-space? Side slot? Centre cubby?
who has found a use for this space? It’s too deep for a phone or keys etc, hard to get anything out. It seems like a tray-mod or divider would make it way more useful…
Agreed, I had initially ordered the alucab because I think they are better made and all one piece which I would have preferred. I much prefer the look of the smart cap but couldn't justify the price just for the aesthetics. However, considering how often I use it for bikes the clearance was...
ya I mean a tennis ball or something might help but I would be pretty worried about the glass. It took no effort at all to push the handlebar into the glass, I’m sure even mild bumps on the road it would be slamming into it. Also my dealer told me a 3 month wait for a replacement glass if it...
thanks Soupy! Got mine installed today, also measuring that at about 35 1/2”.
it’s looking fresh on the underground. Looks like around 3/4” of sag on the rear wheels.
thanks, but I was looking for the door opening (lowest height) to see if my bike would clear.
I’m measuring the Tacoma bed height around 51cm (have seen 50cm as well) from the top of the bed rib, and the door opening as per smart cap specs is 38cm so should be around 88-89cm but that’s not...
anybody with a smart cap currently on their truck willing to take a quick measurement for me? Just want to know what the distance from the top of the rear door (open) to the bed is. Trying to see if I can fit my bike under it on this new gen. much appreciated.
This is true, however it surprised me coming from my 2nd gen, with a LEER cap, and having ZERO issues with handlebar contact. I didnt have the rack pulled all the way out of the receiver, and even with my larger bike (wider bars) closest to the truck never came close to to contact. it seems like...
Just got my new 4th gen, swapped over my 1up SD rack for my bikes. It appears that the hitch receiver is mounted further underneath the truck in relation to the tailgate itself on this new gen ... long story short, even with the bike rack backed out as far as it can go in the receiver, there is...
Can anyone help me out - wondering about the vertical height of the smart cap door opening on a 4th gen tacoma (trying to see whether it will be tall enough for me coming from a mid-rise cap).
Smart cap sent me their diagram which shows 38cm door opening, and Im measuring the new tacoma beds...
Does anyone have some interior dimensions for the smart cap on the 4th gen? Mostly wondering about the open rear door height, and the interior roof height. Im coming from a 2nd gen with a mid-rise cap, and both the bed and the cab are both a bit taller in this gen, Im wondering if a cab-height...
