Seriously!? Its that easy? Dude that sounds perfect. DSC on all corners. I never took stock rear height measurements but it did seem to jump up more than Icon's .5" increase. With 500 pounds I might keep level. Thank you for the 3rd way option. It was always my understanding the compression...
We are driving down to Utah from Alaska this June to pickup a teardrop trailer we are purchasing. All said and done a reasonably accurate tongue weight estimate is going to be 400 lbs. with 150 lbs of gear in the bed - 550 total bed weight.
Taco is currently dialed with Fox Performance Elite...
Mass jump. Fairbanks is just below freezing. Rain in winter is such a trashy way to go. But dang does it feel good to breath again and not have everything feel so brittle.
Same. I cheated, though. This is the 21 4Runner. It's been the coldest winter we've had in 80-something years. I do have the heated seats and wheel, which I thought was weak sauce until this winter. Are you in Anchortown or Fairbanks?
The wattage is kept low on autostart to prevent the seat from overheating. The issue is without a heat conduit (human) a high watt flow runs the risk of damage/fire due to a lack of thermal transfer. Without the transfer the seat will cook itself.
Not a plug-in hybrid ;) Winterization WITHOUT the factory block heater, which is criminal. Canada gets it, but AK and the rest of the US can suck it, says Toyota. Other than that this truck is the best choice in its segment by far.
@zekesview Nice checklist and photos! What purposes do the strap and rated carabineer serve on the recover points? And are those AlphaRex headlight units and if so what do you think?
Your photos are well composed. Nice work.
Ice and snow are two different things. I am in AK as well. We now consistently get freezing rain on top of frozen roads. Nightmare conditions. No tires works in that condition but studs.
From stock with the BFG tires and +55 offset oem wheels to 2.25" front / .5 rear, new UCAs and +25 offset wheels there are a lot of variables in that mix.
The alignment was key. So driving - noticeable difference in the input required to turn at lower speeds. What I mean by that is a micro...
I installed new Camburg UCAs about three weeks after that post and its night and day. Toyota tech was able to get -.1 camber and caster is at 5.5. Adding that much caster makes a huge difference in how planted the truck feels compared to twitching out on those original alignment figures.
They potentially will be extremely helpful. This is really good content. I have scoured to the web and read as much as possible to get ready to do this with as little drama as possible.
Your way of getting the intercooler clear of the bolt head was mentioned briefly but never articulated to...
I would love that. Some posts make it sound simple by removing the intercooler tube but it's never that easy so that's why I asked.
Good to hear. I am putting them on my SB Bronze Oxide for my winters. Steelie look with studs.
Thanks for posting.
- Dirt King UCAs
Did you swap out the UCAs yourself? Did you encounter an issue getting the through bolt out on either side?

Great build post and timing! Looks really pro. What do you think of the wheels and the color? I read that...
Camburg tubulars.
They specify no more than 6" of backspace on the install sheet. I called them about it to clarify and they didn't want to commit to it being a good fit past 6".
Ended up going with the NYTOP 8.5 +25 to get the ideal 4.73" backspace for the UCAs.
I think the backspace...
Hello Everyone -
The +35 17x8.5 I highlighted lists the back space as 6.13", which doesn't seem right to me. Doing the math, I found online, you take the width/2 + positive offset in inches (1.37"), which equals 5.6", not 6.13". That's a .5" difference.
I am strongly considering these wheels...
Did you add preload? I was looking at those same Pro UCA's but was getting the impression 2+ inches of lift is too much for them. Nice truck BTW. Nice tip on snow too. We are in winter now already
