Any ideas? I am having an unusual slight thump after stopping at intersections, red lights etc. At first I thought I had been lightly bumped from behind per the new 2024 Tacoma. I’ve noticed a delayed “thump” after I come to a complete stop in my ‘24. The sound is coming from the rear of the truck and happens 1-2 seconds after I stop. I thought it might be the spare but it’s secured tightly. Have any suggestions as to what it might be? Or is this normal?

Can’t thank you enough..

I asked because that sounds like axle wrap, but that is just on trucks with leaf springs. My 2nd gen had a bad habit of doing that.

I have seen other people describe the same thing in 4th gens but I don't remember seeing any answers. Hopefully someone else has seen this and maybe even has a resolution.

Yes Sir, that is initially where I have been reading from forums with previous gen models with leaf springs experience this issue occurring per the 4th Gen before I did not notice anything now that I’ve put 5k on this Tacoma I’ve really been waking this truck up and now I’m noticing this more frequently.

Sounds like a trip to your dealer might be needed. If it didn't do it until 5k miles it sounds like something has changed and better get checked out.

My opinion on what’s causing that is “slop” in the driveline, 3rd gens were notorious for that (some of them) the other theory is the transmissions is having some kind of delay to it and us trying to shift when the truck is stopped …. Idk I’m not an engineer but trying to use my common sense

Hey I can confirm this issue on my 2024 Trailhunter (1250 miles) along with hard 1 to 2 shifts on initial cold start and driving I am also experiencing the "thud" at a stop sign. Not sure if its something to do with the Hybrid system disengaging or ? I have a plan trip to Nevada and AZ going to hit some trails hopefully the transmission holds and it wont leave me stranded out there.

I also wondered if it could be a delayed downshift after you stop. My truck sometimes does clunky shifts into and out of 1st and 2nd.

Do you have a hybrid @fitsofrage88? Even if it is a hybrid I don't think it is the cause, because by the time I come to a stop the engine is off and there is never any thud when it engages/disengages.

I have the same thud on my Trailhunter. I took it to my dealer and was told it was the Hybrid system disengaging/engaging. Only notice it coming to slow stop or taking off slowly. Not sure if there is a fix.

@fitsofrage88 Obviously it is not the hybrid system in your truck. When my transmission downshifts at the right time it is smooth, but sometimes there is a delay and then a thud. I think it is caused by a sticky shift solenoid not responding immediately.

I am not an automotive engineer, but that hybrid engaging/disengaging story sounds like bs to me. You know, the kind of thing dealers tell you to make you go away.

The hybrid motor is inline with the torque converter and transmission and is always engaged, just sometimes it is a generator and sometimes it is a motor. I can tell you that my hybrid never clunks when "engaging/disengaging". It is also the starter motor in this system, but it does not do that until you start to move again.
