Yeah, that's annoying and you shouldn't have to live with it. Good news is it's usually fixable.

Heat is very likely the culprit. The cable itself is rated well past anything you'd see, but sometimes heat affects the connectors. It can help to unplug and reseat the connectors.

Second thing to check is the routing for tight bends. Anything tighter than a 3-4 inch radius can go marginal in heat even if it's fine in cooler weather.

Third, anything aftermarket wired near the mirror? Dash cam, inverter, hardwire kit. That stuff can inject noise that looks exactly like a heat problem.

Also worth ruling out the mirror itself. Next time it cuts out, aim the AC at the mirror for a couple minutes. If the picture comes back before the cab has really cooled off, the mirror is running hot on its own and the cable is secondary.

Your cargo cam routing up behind the roof rack spoiler is a solid setup, by the way. Curious how the view turned out.

We can always send a new cable under warranty if needed. Let us know!
So this is an isolated issue due to his specific circumstances? Thx.

Just ordered this kit, as well as a 3rd brake light cable. The team at GGOffroad was super great to deal with, and the order shipped so fast! I am looking forward to using these in installing my canopy.

@Jobu Fair question and I should have answered it sooner.

Not isolated, not widespread. It shows up on a minority of installs, and when it does it's almost always summer heat inside a closed cap. A sealed topper in direct sun runs well above outside temperature, and the connector interface is what feels it, ours or Toyota's. A connection that's fully clicked handles it fine. One that's seated but not locked can open up as things expand.

What makes his case worth paying attention to is the roof cam working while the mirror didn't. Same cap, same heat, so it's not ambient temperature alone. Longer cable run has less margin to spare.

For most people it never comes up. For the ones it does, reseating connectors and venting the cap usually sorts it, and if not we replace the cable. Happy to go deeper on it if you're deciding whether to buy.

@This cannot be changed.

Thanks Dustin, appreciate that. Let us know how the canopy install goes, and if anything's unclear in the instructions along the way just reply here or email us!
