Heater output very disappointing. Warm not hot.

Satisfied with heater on your Tacoma

SR5 spec. Manual heater and fan. The truck takes a long time to get up the cabin up to temperature. Floor setting, floor and defrost setting both take a long time to get the cabin warm. Up to 10 minutes. Heat output is warm, never hot. Heater output increases after I get off the freeway and back to surface streets. I have been driving for 30+ years and have never had this crummy heater.

Drove my other 2 vehicles in the personal fleet during the same cold spell last week. 2006 Scion Xa, 3-5 minutes car is up to temp, heater output is HOT.
Drove Honda Odyssey with auto temp controller. Plenty of HOT air to heat the massive cabin.

Is that just the nature of the beast of the Tacoma 4th gen to have a limp heating system? Have not researched, maybe an overly smart engine thermostat electronically controlled.

Honestly sounds like something is "off/wrong" as I can't keep mine on High or it cooks me. I live in Montana so it's plenty cold to warrant a good heater. 25' TH edition with zero issues. I usually let the coolant gauge move up a 1/4, maybe 5 mins or less of actual driving. If I auto start via the app, it's fully warmed up within 5 and blowing hot air. I normally have to set the Auto to 72 or 74 or roll some windows down.

Same problem here for me. I live in Southern California so I thought it hasn’t really been too cold. Although ive had a few cold morning and you can here the blower fan working but it doesn’t come out of the vents strong like it does with the air conditioning. I even went to the dealer and we started up a new truck on the lot and it did the same problem. I have a suspicion that the gates that direct the airflow to the vents might be stuck causing restricted air flow

Interesting.

I am going to do some more trouble shooting before I take it in. I have a couple of thermometers for smoking meat that I can put into various outlets and track what the actual temp output is in the cabin.

What is your engine temp reading? Mine warms up and sits at 4 bars, just under half way on the gauge.

Same normal operating temperature with the 4 bars.

FWIW…Eco mode governs the HVAC system, so the fans won’t crank like they do in normal & sport drive mode, it’s more noticeable in the summer with AC.
