How well does lighting mounted behind the grill work?

I've seen a lot of companies come out with behind the grill lighting and I can't tell if that would be a great solution or a waste of money due to light being blocked by the light's location and trying to escape the depth and the pattern of the grill.

Anyone ran one and have experience?
