65K for the trail hunter....That is a lot of coin if he is right. Base Gladiator Mojave starts at like $48k right now but can get up there depending on what you add.
99.9% sure thatToyota has already confirmed that the truck must be running to use the plugs. You can not power anything off of the hybrid battery. Guessing you could always try to hack it.
OP, you can go with the non hybrid option as well. The fact that you have to power an inverter should not make a difference unless you think you will be able to tap into the hybrid battery's power when the truck is not running.
Well as long as the battery and truck are made in North America then it should still get like $6500 in federal rebates I think. That would help out with the price increase.
The battery tech is just not there for a 100 mile range. You have to figure that much range would need a 40-50kw battery and that would be huge. Lower your goal to around 25 to 35 miles and it becomes much more feasible with balancing the battery weight/size with gas tank weight and size...
I wish that we would see some PHEV trucks in both midsize and full size class. I do think we will see a revolution once solid state batteries go into mass production.
Guessing it would need to be a sensor on the steering wheel to detect BAL through the skin in order not to be invasive and cause revolt. I know the tech is out there but not sure if it is ready for prime time.
I would be shocked if the law actually takes effect without it being challenged in court on 4th amendment grounds. If it does then you can almost guarantee someone will find a bypass solution much like the mandated start/stop.
