  1. Cracked Windshield Advice Wanted

I got my one and only chipped windshield in a decade or more about a month after buying my truck last year. Insurance recommended safelite and they came out and completely shattered my window. I’ve seen chips repaired before with very precise drills or light gentle taps and this guy literally...
  2. Which topper and why ARE?

I was actually going to edit my response to say in your case with a 100lb dog and the size of the Tacoma cab I’d probably do the same with harness much of the time. Absolutely agree that vehicle type and pet size matter when choosing the best option. But just to clarify for others reading...
  3. Which topper and why ARE?

I didn’t say anything was truly crash proof. It’s a designation given by the pet safety institute to kennels that have passed their crash tests. Regardless, my point is that you said harnesses were proven to be safest and that isn’t true. They are better than having an unrestrained dog, but not...
  4. Which topper and why ARE?

Harnesses are better than nothing, I use them occasionally, but as far as “proven to be safest”, that goes to dogs riding inside a properly fitted crash proof kennel.
  5. Which topper and why ARE?

That’s awesome! Thank you for the pictures. I don’t have the digital mirror which while I didn’t want at the time of purchase I can see now how great it would be with a shell and kind of wish I had it! Regarding the dogs, I always did the same. Love having my dogs in the cab with me. That...
  6. Which topper and why ARE?

Your ARE or Smart Cap? EDIT: Sorry ha! I worked all night and need to go to bed. I’m about ready to pull the trigger myself. Maybe you’ve posted the info on other threads but which model and options did you not for? You have dogs? Thanks!
  7. Which topper and why ARE?

I was set to buy an ARE until my buddy with a 2022 Tacoma talked me out of it based on his experience, which was pretty similar to yours. I know OP said no Smart Cap but my buddy said if he could do it over again that’s what he’d do. He had previously had an ARE on his 2014 Tacoma he was really...
  8. What did you drive before your Tacoma?

Yo! the summer after I graduated high school I worked construction days and nights as a cook/busser and this was the first vehicle I ever purchased at the end of that summer. I did end up needing the rear differential replaced at one point but other than that I loved that jeep. Was actually...
  9. Mod Side Mirrors to Fold Electronically?

I’d like it if they folded in a little more, manual or automatic. They don’t fold very far.
  10. Real-Life MPG Thread - Share Your 2024+ Tacoma 4th Gen's Gas Mileage! â›˝

Approaching 12k miles. Computer calculates me at 18.2mpg and my math says 18.5mpg. I’m all stock right now although I’ll be adding sliders and a steel engine plate soon so I expect it’ll drop a little bit. I don’t speed up and slow down to weave on the freeway like I may have done as a young...
  11. The government has mandated a kill-switch in new vehicles sold after 2026.

It’s not a proposed bill — it’s already federal law. The amendment vote you’re referring to was an attempt to stop it, not to create it. That effort failed, so the mandate is still in place unless it’s overturned by new legislation.
  12. The government has mandated a kill-switch in new vehicles sold after 2026.

I’m happy:) But considering the events of the last 6 years I’ll remain tentatively concerned. The fact that it was even voted into law regardless of whether it will ever be enforced is reason enough for concern in my opinion.
  13. Premium Fuel or Regular

Yeah I read something on another thread regarding how the torque and HP numbers were achieved and you’re right, I wasn’t using the ROM correctly. Thank you for the explanation:)
  14. Premium Fuel or Regular

If this was true wouldn’t the manual would say 87 only and not 87 minimum?
  15. Premium Fuel or Regular

The manual actually calls for “87 or higher” and states “research octane number 91”. So I believe MPG numbers, torque, etc were all acquired with 91 octane. At least that’s how I interpret the manual. Top Tier is a designation given to fuel companies that exceed EPA minimums for detergent...
  16. The government has mandated a kill-switch in new vehicles sold after 2026.

My understanding is while the earlier linked bill is an appropriations bill as you said, that the actual mandate for the impaired-driving technology (what people are calling a “kill switch”) is in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, Section 24220 — a separate, binding law. The...
  17. The government has mandated a kill-switch in new vehicles sold after 2026.

In the bill “advanced drunk and impaired driving prevention technology” is mandated by 2026 and must: “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired; and prevent or limit motor vehicle operation if an impairment is...
  18. The government has mandated a kill-switch in new vehicles sold after 2026.

Actually it is in the works, they just aren’t calling it a “kill switch”. The AP article you linked was in response to potentially exaggerated social media posts. The 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Section 24220) does require that all new vehicles by 2026 include advanced impaired...
  19. Carwash (with sunroof)

Great advice. Have had a RAV4 and a GS300 where those got clogged. Definitely on my list for any car with a sunroof. Happy I don’t have one on the Tacoma if I’m being honest even though they are really nice to have. But yeah, solid advice here.
  20. The government has mandated a kill-switch in new vehicles sold after 2026.

“The bill failed to pass Maybe we'll get an executive order banning it, which might then get voted into law by Congress.” Probably obvious to most but just wanted to add that when bill was not passed, that left the kill switch on the table.
