Congrats on the new suspension!!
I’m awaiting some rear springs to come in to do my own install as well.
The top setting is 3” and the bottom is 1.75” so the third one up should be 2.25-2.5” of settled height. (5cm per setting)
I’m getting a spring compressor in the coming days to adjust them...
If you upgrade the lower knuckle to the OEM Toyota part PT981-35310/35320 your turning radius will improve. If you upgrade the tie rod end to the OEM Toyota part PT81G-35310/35320 it will improve your ability to dial in the alignment aside from just the UCA improvement. The whole LCA should not...
200lbs smartcap, 90lbs diy platform, considering building a drawer from 8020 aluminum that’ll weight probably 30lbs empty. That’s all constant weight. It it was over 400lbs I would have gone with the 821 springs.
Use ChatGPT to go over spring options. It’s really insightful. Call it out on the...
For under $3k I think the Bilstein 6112/6100 would be the best option along with the OME UCAs. Rear springs with the Dobinsons 819 vs the 327 as the 819 will handle added weight a little better but if you are mostly stock weight 90% of the time the 819 might be a bit stiff and harsh.
I dont...
That is concerning. I really dont want to be in backwoods nowhere and have a top hat blow out. I hope they have a fix soon. I'll reach out to them as well since I just purchased them through shock surplus and hope to install them in the next month.
Yea… my plan is to get the Dobinsons 821 or 819. Which would you recommend? I def have 450+ constant weight. I can place order now as I’ll wait for the suspension through the summer to hopefully get 15% off for Black Friday. Or maybe 4th of July if I’m lucky.
Great info… I’ve got a longed with a smartcap and westcott sliders (0° with top plates). I built a platform and have already noticed quite a bit of sag and reduced rear dampening. Planning MT64 asap and with the reports of turning radius issues will put the upgraded knuckles and tie rods. Will...
How was doing the install aside from the twisted issue?
Did you change out the rear springs?
I'm hoping to do my own suspension swap in a few months and although I'm very capable, never took on anything this involved before. I'm leaning towards the MT64 with the 819 Dobinsons as they'll handle...
Update:
Installed the sliders without "much" issue. Got a 16" rivnut tool that was still DIFFICULT to use the M12 attachment with. Had to do it tandem with a buddy to get it to crush. Even still, when putting the bolts in, a couple of them started to slip a lot easier than I expected. If anyone...
I was leaning more towards the Dobinsons C59-819 spring because I think I'll get a bit more lift at my constant weight and it'll handle my "loaded" weight better. However, I'd really like to hear your initial impressions and any thoughts after going out a few times.
Yea!! Let me know how it rides. I have been pricing in the delta joint because I hear it’s got better articulation but I don’t want a squeaky maintenance hog.
i wish i could!! too expensive up front and too expensive to maintain every couple years to rebuild not to mention having to have a rental for however long to get them done.
Yea, I’ve looked at heavier stock height springs but I wanted to get some additional lift as well. As much as some people say 285/70/17s fit without lift or +25 wheels, others report some rub and I don’t want any rub. I get wheels are cheaper than a lift but I feel with my desired use, a lift...
Good day everyone!
I'm looking at upgrading my suspension and would like y'alls input on overlanding setups.
I've currently got a Smartcap, DIY platform and rock sliders totaling about 440lbs constant weight with plans of an Engine/Gas skid. No plans for a bumper or winch (yet?).
I have a...
The CBI sliders don’t have any inferior mounting bolts. They are all on the side. I think Westcott thinks 6 inferior rivnuts are better than nothing. And I agree. Just wish that was clear before purchase.
