I made a few calls with no luck, but I did learn a few things. Apparently, there is a planned production run of hybrids starting in mid-August. I called two dealers, and both had Hybrid-Limited allocations for mid-August in the Wind Chill color. Naturally, I told them that if they could change the color, they would get my business.
Now, after all this, the NH dealer, who wants to charge over MSRP, called to start the order process. I immediately replied that I was canceling the agreement because I found a dealer who isn't going to charge me over MSRP (I had no intention of paying that anyway). They responded with, "Oh, what if I talk to my manager and we price match?" My response was, "Price match? No, you'll have to beat it. But ask the question anyway." I don't expect to hear back.
We all know the moral of this story: you got greedy, and you lost.
