Solved - the previous owner had installed a ShiftPower module. It was in valet mode. I reset the module and everything is good now. Should I uninstall it completely or keep it?

———-

I recently purchased a certified preowned 2024 Tacoma TRD off-road. The previous owner put on a factory lift and
Nitto recon grappler AT 285 75 17. Other than that, I don’t notice any significant modifications. The truck cannot accelerate at all when going up even a moderate Hill. I can put the pedal to the floor and although the transmission downshifts the turbo does not kick in and the truck barely moves. I’m coming from a Jeep gladiator so it’s not like I’m used to a hot rod. Strangely, I do not notice the same problem when adaptive cruise is activated. The truck is not in Eco mode. Putting it in sport mode and manually downshifting does not help to get the turbo to kick in either. Is this to be expected? Any suggestions before I bring it back to the dealer to check out? Thank you.

I'm on 285/70R17 and there's lots of power on acceleration. I'd take it to the dealer and let them look at it.

Is there an aftermarket airbox or anything under the hood? I'm wondering if the tube from the airbox to the turbo is not connected right or maybe an intercooler pipe is disconnected. I'm not sure what else might cause the turbo to not work.

If it's not getting into boost at all under high engine load then the turbo wastegate isn't actuating properly. Is the vacuum line to the wastegate popped off or clogged? It should begin closing the wastegate under load (high vacuum) and sending boost into the motor. Look in your engine bay on the left hand side looking down and see if there are any black hoses dangling free in there not connected to anything.

Thank you. I’ll check. Wouldn’t that impact turbo performance with adaptive cruise too?

Thanks! Good to know it’s not the larger tires

On your dash does the turbo gauge show if boost is being created or not? Just curious if the truck thinks boost is happening or not.

I have an update. A different shop from where I bought took a look they said that there’s a pedal Commander and some aftermarket intercooler parts. They don’t want to mess with any of it and recommend I bring it back to where I bought it. I will. The shop that just looked at it said that, in their opinion, none of that will be covered by my certified preowned warranty. That is definitely contrary to what I was told when I was bought the truck.
