Hey everyone,
Just wanted to make this post because of the lack of posts about this, so much so that I barely even knew it was an option until I did some digging on Facebook and found a single post about it. But that is: OEM bolt-on steps to the OEM rocker Rails to create basically a modular predator tube step.
Sorry if that confuses anyone, as technically all predator steps are bolt-on, but I'm not talking about the Long 6 foot long 1 piece predator steps that mount onto the truck itself, no, I'm talking about the individual steps that bolt onto the rocker rails separately (but not all rocker rails).
I am looking to build an OEM+ stealth sort of build, but I know once I lift my truck a bit and put on 34s, getting into it will be a bit harder for those vertically struggling people in my life, so I wanted something that wouldn't take away from the build's look, would still give me maximum clearance, but would also actually help people. That led me down a path of finding something that worked really well for one or maybe 2 of those points, but never all 3.
- Rocker Rails (look good, maximum ground clearance+armor, doesn't really help anyone get into the truck as they are too tall)
- Predator steps (looks good, terrible for snagging rocks and clearance, great for helping people up)
- Rocker Protector (looks great, amazing clearance as they sit flush, doesn't help anyone at all get in)
This led me to end up finding out that some rocker protectors (Apparently the TRD Pro ones only) had bolts in them, they looked like they would perfectly be placed to add a step (if I could find the steps) but while I googled, I couldn't find any reference of them nor any pictures of removable steps, UNTIL I saw a Facebook post with just the separated step. This got me interested again, as I knew I wasn't crazy, and I ended up finding one of those TRD Pro rocker protectors on Facebook and bought it. Then, after some searching and random lookups on the genuine parts store, I stumbled upon the part # for just the steps and the tool to put them on the specific rails. This number is #PT925-35246
Now, I still don't know the part number to buy the rocker protector itself. As I have said, it's NOT the normal rocker protector rail, but I have heard the specific rail you need is a TRD Pro only, so try and look on Facebook for people selling theirs, as I did. But once you have both pieces, the install is really easy. The rails themselves are just a few bolts that are already on the bottom of your truck, easy to install with an impact to just take them out, put the rocker protector on, and bolt them back in. Then, for the steps, you simply use the tool given with the kit, take off the bolts, put the steps on, and put the bolts back on. It takes maybe 5 minutes to do all 4 steps once the rocker protector is already on.
I think this is the perfect in-between for functionality, cost, and style. When you need the max clearance, you simply take off the step portion, but when you are just on normal day-to-day roads, you can have them attached.
Here it is with just the protectors :
And here it is with the steps on :
I hope this will help someone be less confused than I was in the future, going on a wild goose chase to find any evidence of these existing, hahahaha. And what do you all think? Worth the effort or better off with nothing?
