Used the heavier duty on a rear coil sprung ram 1500 for 14 years. Great product, stabilize the ride while hauling or towing a heavy trailer. It’s a good compromise vs inflatable ones but you will feel when the axle initially hits the bump stopper but for me it was not a problem. I’m getting my Tacoma in the next two weeks and will certainly plan on getting a set. Probably the active off-road since they seem softer and might be a good compromise

Are they just for hauling heavy loads or would they work just to assist on things like roads with lots of potholes?

If you chose the SES they are intended to improve the control and dampening when heavy hauling, but the active offroad system seems more intended to soften and control bottoming while off-roading. Their YouTube video on 4th gen Tacoma looks convincing
