Yep, I think it's all about the speed. Did a 140-mile trip a couple days ago. Country highway in mountains, mostly 55 with some 45. Also 15 miles of dirt road at 20 or less. Economy meter shows 25 mpg.
It would be interesting if someone with larger tires could do a similar run and post what...
We really need a list that we can link to of the things that kill fuel economy. Top two on my list would be.
1. Stop and go driving (in particular if you have a heavy foot).
2. Speed.
As far as break-in period is concerned, I never noticed any difference. Of course, my break-in was probably a...
I don't have a cab rack yet but the one I put on my shell (low profile with front airfoil) dropped my mpg from 23.7 to 22.8 on the 1000 mi round trip that I use to compare mileage. In comparison, adding the shell showed a slight improvement of 23.5 to 23.7.
If I do decide I need a front rack...
Pull the rack and bars off and see if that makes a difference. If it does, then you can decide which is more important, fuel efficiency or having them mounted all the time.
I have a smartcap with a low-profile rack on it that costs me about .5mpg so I don't care. If I ever decide I need a rack...
Two biggest factors (IMO) are stop and go traffic and speed. I've seen various comments that fuel efficiency increases over the first few thousand miles but that was not my experience.
Weight difference between C and E KO3s is only 3 lbs. (285's, 265 C KO3 not out yet, supposed to come out this year). Big difference is going from stock tire to KO3 (12 lbs) but I've already decided I'm upgrading. Just wondering if I need Es. BFG claims to have extra sidewall protection in both...
From a few comments I've seen the lean (had a 2013 pre-runner on which it was noticeable) was from the weight of the fuel tank. I have not noticed any on my 2024.
On the oil change, I did my first at 5k (wanted the dealer to do it but apparently they don't actually look at the work order so...
Hi.
I don't do a lot of off-roading but I'd kind of like to get out to the Racetrack in Death Valley once more before I get too old. The road has warnings about sharp rocks. In fact, the last time I was there (decades ago) we had to help out a couple of guys that had a sidewall cut and (of...
They probably get paid more for actually changing parts than they do for diagnostics. Mechanic in the video above also has a video on why you should want to pay for diagnostics and mentions something to that effect.
Before this one I had a 2013 pre-runner. Before that I had a Nissan Versa with a tiny engine and rubber-band drive.
Actually liked the belt-drive transmission. My daughter has it and it's somewhere over 100,000 miles without breaking.
Anyone found any guards yet? I already had to replace a taillight. All I have found so far are tinted covers that use double sided tape to adhere to the light.
I agree with you on the likely failure point. I do recall seeing somewhere what the stock "loop" tow hooks were supposed to be rated for, but I can't find it now (I think they said it was 1.5 times the weight of the truck). If I were seriously expecting to do hard recoveries (vs digging...
The side windows are great for loading and unloading. Took my grandsons camping last month and packed it to the ceiling. Only had to crawl inside once to strap in a propane tank that I didn't want to slide around. I have a long-bed so the front corners can be a stretch but it's way easier than...
