On my third gen, I controlled my light bar from my dimmer switch (plus an on/off switch). I wanted to do that –or what your plan is– with my ditch lights on this new truck. I'm fairly electrical, but I couldn't figure it out.
Perhaps there's a solution that I missed.

It's a known problem that the early transmissions had swarf (metal left over from manufacturing) that causes the transmission to fail. If it happens, I have no idea how long it may take for your dealer to get a transmission and install it. Perhaps there's a backlog, but maybe not. If it fails...
So... I paid $51 for my OR with the Premium package, so I don't think the prices are outlandish.
I'd make sure the VINs don't fall under the transmission TSB.
I installed Cali ditch lights and didn't use my aux switches. I chose their switch because I wanted it in the upper right switch blank spot, and it turns blue when the lights are on.
