Tried to buy these but the free shipping would not stick after visiting PayPal. Every time I got back to finishing the order at Redline the shipping charge was back and I eventually just gave up.
I might try again later, or do some more shopping to see what else is out there.
My last dealer didn't charge anything to change that stuff on my Tundra, but it would not surprise me at all if some do. I knew someone whose dealer would not turn off the seatbelt chime because they said it would make them liable if they were injured in a crash. So I love the Carista because I...
@Yotota Yep - axle wrap is almost a Toyota tradition. My Tacos and Tundras have all done it to some extent. I have been told that mostly happens with leaf springs, so I'm not sure if it happens with most 4th gens or not.
@cswitz was able to confirm that this happens when his transmission shifts...
The mechanicals from 4th gen 8-speeds are also used in some transverse engine Toyota and Lexus suvs. Poor shift quality, particularly when cold is a common complaint in them too, for what that's worth. One owner went so far as wishing they would go back to a CVT.
I took some back to back drives turning them off/on with a Carista. I didn't notice a lot of difference with the ANC, but the engine sounded a lot different with the ENE off. I personally like it more with the ENE on and I ended up turning both back on and leaving it that way.
My 2nd gen Taco did that a lot and to the point where I would sometimes look in the mirror thinking someone had run into my truck. FJ Cruisers were based on the same chassis and running gear so I am not surprised that it was a problem with them too.
In 4th gens it seems to be related to some...
I used one of those when I changed the oil in my Tundra, which made a real mess without it. I tossed it when we moved because it was getting old (over 10 years!), but I can definitely recommend it.
It is time for my first oil change and I need to order one. Thanks for the reminder.
Bummer.
Unless there were a lot of bad batteries installed in 2024 trucks, the hybrids without alternators definitely seem to have a problem. There have been a lot of reports of this and I don't think Toyota added that alternator just for the hell of it. My truck keeps starting but it never...
I have had some really nasty stop/start systems on rentals with ICEs and I always turn that off if I can too.
But when I move off from a start, my truck starts moving on the traction motor while also starting the ICE and the whole thing is so seamless I hardly notice that the engine wasn't...
I have not found a way to completely turn it off without restarting the engine. Hitting cancel or the brakes disengages it, but you are correct, it remains on until you restart the truck. I guess that doesn't really hurt anything, but it seems odd.
When my truck was at about 1k miles I had the rumble strip weirdness too. The first time it happened I looked in the rear view mirror for the strip in the road, thinking I had just not seen it. But there was not strip there even though that was exactly how it felt.
A couple hundred miles later...
@Baltimore My wife's Lexus battery electric 12v battery went low enough a couple of times that it had to be jumped.
It was just a few months old the first time it happened and I did not check the voltage before charging it, so I don't know how low it went. Lexus tested the battery and said it...
That is what I thought too, and I will see what the dealer has to say. I have not added anything that is drawing down the battery beyond the many things that today's vehicles do, even when off. I assume that Toyota designed for that, but they did not account for that in my wife's battery...
@Lennyz1 My battery has never read at the levels you posted. I returned about an hour ago from a 30 mile freeway drive and it now reads 12.22 VDC. My last reading was 11.89 V after it sat for two days. I suppose it might be my meter, but the readings I get from it make sense when I use it for...
