My dealer (Cedar Park Toyota in TX) would not give me the time of day when I requested them to change some of these settings. They were clueless. The service writer sent me to their "AOA department" which sent out a young guy, probably in training to be a salesman, whose job is to explain to...
The technician's reply was that the truck's "transmission control history log" did not show a problem. That is how he/she is supposed to know what was going on. Apparently the data logging function is also broken, or else you got a technician who doesn't do the work but makes a denial of...
This is one of the most irritating things about the truck (and I assume all new Toyotas): it shouldn't be that difficult! I spent way too much time figuring this out, and now that I know, it's such a pain that I will rarely bother to reset either tripmeter. I'll just live without it. Thanks...
Here is a link to a fantastic presentation on why we might all favor Top Tier gasoline.
BTW Quiktrip is Top Tier usually at a favorable price. If you don't already know all about Top Tier then you should definitely watch this. I am not sponsored or a sponsor of anything, I just like what...
Hello, Chance3, apologizing in advance because this is off-topic but your grill light bar caught my eye. I have been hoping to find lights that can mount approximately where yours are, above the factory fog lights. I want LONG range driving lights which are sometimes called pencil beams etc...
Thanks for the question and comments! Seems like a fair price if it's truly comprehensive. Does it, for example, have clear information on performing routine maintenance items that aren't in the owner's manuals? I'm thinking of the things like "lubricate clutch fork" which you're supposed to...
Good points! I'm about as fuzzy on what "Sheldon the engineer" said, too. I should go rewatch some of those videos. But you reminded me that I need not feel much guilt about banging off the rev limiter in 1st gear: when you're accelerating hard (not often but also not rare for me) it runs out...
Welcome, SRGuy! Almost as soon as I got my Off-road MT home, I removed the Turd stickers from both fenders and the dealer stick-on badge. Save The Manuals!
Thanks for the Stillen link, Brian! I'll admit I'm surprised by their result, which implies that Toyota is leaving that extra power on the table. I think Stillen is a reputable company, but don't lose sight of the fact that their business is to sell higher performance for your vehicle. Any...
I completely agree that changing both oil and filter sooner than 10,000 miles is much more important than any differences between brands of oil, so long as the technical requirements are met. I feel very comfortable using the even less expensive Costco brand which is around $36 for 10 quarts if...
Can you send a link, please, to this 'proven via dyno' information? I am very interested in what form this happiness will be: better mileage, more power, less noise, what? It would be unusual for a properly-operating engine to benefit from octane higher than what the manufacturer recommends.
I second Mightyquinn: silicone is the ultimate, from what I've seen. I got no-name silicone blades on Amazon several years ago for my Subaru and they outlasted the car. $10 or $20 for two, as I recall. I had the Subie in both Massachusetts and Texas, so I think great in all conditions. But if...
Hey, Nick, if your Limited has AWD then it does not have the 4WD drive system that most Tacos have: you have a full-time AWD with a lockable center differential. You're fine on dry pavement all the time without extra wear and tear unless you engage the center differential.
Great posts! Thanks for starting this thread. I have a feeling we'll be getting a lot more feedback from the other 'the few, the proud, the Marines dudes who had to have a manual despite the ludicrous hoops we had to jump through to get one and despite that logic completely favors the...
Seems strange that the noise started after detailing. I was going to suggest putting leather conditioner or something with silicone on it. Be careful if it's real leather. Is it possible that the detailers scrubbed it with detergent and actually removed an OEM oil?
Thank you! I was aware of that but your post might help others. I tend to turn my phone's Bluetooth on and off because of battery drain. I have to remember to turn on the Bluetooth BEFORE getting into the truck, because turning on the BT after the truck is on results in a frustrating...
I can recommend Coverking.com for non-leather seat covers: had them on my Subaru for years. They offer both real neoprene (wet suit material) and a similar material that costs less than real neoprene which is what I had. It held up very well for the 8 or 10 years I had them on the Subie. BTW...
I have started a list of things that bother me, and I'll present it to the dealer when I take it for the 10k mile service. I have very low expectations for them being able to do anything, but I'm just optimistic or naive enough to hope that if enough of us complain for long enough, maybe Toyota...
