yeah I had a BMW X3 that had a smaller button by the main start button that disabled this. It always felt spooky just sitting at a red light in dead silence, I prefer to have the engine on, but also 50 years old and generally hate everything at this point.
This is my first truck, has about 1500 miles at this point.
Son drove my truck to school yesterday and apparently was poking around on the knobs etc, and put it in 4hi. I know you should avoid using 4hi (and lo) on pavement and tight turns, it's best when the wheels are slipping independently...
These setups look awesome!
I started (very) small and got a pair of THESE BAOFENG GM-15 Pros for basic winching/spotting, etc. They were well reviewed HERE. They sit perfectly in that little area to the right of the shifter.
I got two 90 degree USB C cables and kinda wound and zip tied them...
I show a few pics of me running thru the firewall and along the doors to the hybrid battery under the back seat here: https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/threads/rough-country-winch-mount-badlands-12k-hf-install-on-a-4th-gen-2024-tacoma-hybrid-trd-off-road-minimal-trimming-huge-pita-but-yessir.11348/
once you successfully pair your android, you can go to "apps" on the truck, and futz around with android auto settings. set it to auto launch, and you'll never need to manually launch it. let me go out ot my truck and see if i can grab a screenshot.
EDIT: Here you go:
one note, I had to take the front back off and cut the handle to the winch clutch. The front assembly has some bars that interfere with the clutch handle itself rotating. Just opened her back up, got the clutch removed, and cut it off:
Works great now!
Did not notice a difference, but also did not measure. I saw another youtube video (i think by team oil drop) where he measured before and after, and noticed no change.
yep, here:
Hey all,
My friend Leonard and I just chucked yesterday at the wiring, and this bad boy is now able to pull small children out of quicksand should the need arise!
Inspired by THIS THREAD which retained the OEM skip plate and required no cutting, I took the dive and bought the RC winch mount...
@jettaway what did you do for front recovery points?
RC Themselves obviously want to sell you theirs:
but since you were able to retain the OEM skidplate, did this cause issues?
