TLDR: Toyota bought the truck back
Brief timeline of Issues
- April 24': Bought truck, hvac started whistling like a tea kettle from vents 20 min down the road from dealer (did not notice this during test drive because it was warm and...
I thought there were differences for example some have a single fin and other trims have 3 fins depending on if you got the MTM. I thought some of the cameras and maybe other options communicate via the fins. I could be wrong but I remember some video out there explaining it.
It would be nice we could have the feeds for these passed to the infotainment screen. I am hoping the anytime backup camera is eventually made available for the 2024 also. Would be nice if all of it was integrated so one set of cams get you the F/R dash cam + backup camera (for those of us...
Good review, I reached out to Fas-Top but their delivery time didn't meet my time for needing the topper so I passed on it. Glad to see someone else picked it up.
How do you feel it seals around the bed considering you had to adjust the install a bit to get it fitted?
I saw this also and wondered why they at least don't have a dummy plate to cover it from the elements. Its in an area thats gonna get abused by water/salt.
Just an update, not a great one. Truck is in the shop they tore it down to get to the AC box / temperature control blend door etc. I guess they figured out that either Toyota didn't send all the parts or that they need some other parts that weren't ordered. Either way not fun. ETA on the...
Nice mod, I also like the accents the silver provides vs. just all dark on with the underground color and blacked out emblem. Plastidipping is a cool stress free option to just remove it if it doesn't turn out or wear well.
Any plan to do the tacoma side emblem and put silver letters on the...
Unsurprising that you can just install the selector. A little surprising the software is not locked behind something the dealer has to flash or at least enable via privileged access . Seems like buttons that could mess with throttle and vehicle stability should be locked down just for...
Idk, they are replacing the hvac box on mine. They kept mine for a week to diagnose it with Toyota. They did initially remove the blower motor from mine and install one from another taco on the lot that didn't have the whistling. They put the other motor(s) in mine and it still whistled...
My truck also has this. Was going to mention this to the dealer but I have had bigger issues with my truck to deal with then some ill fitting plastic.
What also is disappointing is the window seals. If it rains water gets in the door and stays for days. It has rained here and 2 days...
I get garbage MPG i am at 16 stock height/tires. But I live in a very hilly area its nearly 100% 'city' driving. Its a little frustrating that I can get in the truck and it says say 240miles to empty...i'll drive maybe 6 miles and it will say 220 miles to empty. On the highway I have...
Another update, parts are in. Will be getting the work done next week.
I am taking extensive photos of the interior and videos of the ride quality/noises so that I have evidence in the event the work causes squeaks and rattles. Fun stuff.
Here is my truck on the tow truck after the driveline sounded like it was breaking apart at 75mph. There is an open support case with Toyota corporate. They replicated the issue at the dealer but it has now magically disappeared. Toyota told me drive it and bring it in next time it breaks...
Check out my post history and the threads Iāve started before saying what my post ālooks likeā. I havenāt even started threads for all the issues my truck has.
This week my side view mirrors stopped working. So add that to the pile.
My .02 is the go over your truck with a microscope when it comes in. I mean test everything. Spend half a day testing it before you agree. Take a long test drive get on the highway feel how it drives listen for any rattles etc. Fully check all AC/heat controls, heated seats/ventilated...
I was really hoping for a Bronze Oxide but only thing I could get was Underground and to be honest it is a PITA to maintain. It being a flat dark color means every single small paint swirl catches light. Its worse than when I had black vehicles because those at least had some metal flake...
Nice! They asked me if I was in the area when I called to help with the prototyping but its just a few thousand miles too far for a casual drive lol. Hope they can get these toppers mocked up quickly.
I have this noise but I don't think its audible enough on my truck to be considered an issue. I can definitely hear it at highway speeds when on the gas but as far as noise level its not significant for me at the moment. I thought it was the turbo at first.
Update, Toyota has communicated that a new hvac āboxā would need to be installed. They are sending the parts to the dealer. They will have to dismantle the dash to do it. As I have sorta feared now I have to decide if itās worth the risk of future dash issues to fix the whistling ?
