Last update for now
I changed the thread title to reflect what I know/don’t know. The original title was misleading.
The severely loud metal clanking that changed with speed (getting worse while slowing from 70mph down) has ceased for now. No idea what it was maybe ujoint, rear diff...
I don’t have much of an update. Aside from the initial occurrence and recreating it with the dealer mechanic they have not been able to recreate it again this week. They are checking through a list of things and driving it. Put over 100 miles on it and it hasn’t come back. No other checks...
Another followup, More specific info on the issue.
At ~70mph there was a faint ping/rattle we thought it sounded like thin metal rubbing on the tire. The weird thing is at 70mph when it started it was there but not crazy scary loud. It got louder and louder as we slowed to 40mph and we were...
So after we test drove it and heard the sound. They put it on the lift at the dealership and came back and said “shrug”. Nothing looked like it was loose in a way to hit anything in the drive line.
They are keeping the truck this week and calling Toyota corporate. They may drain and inspect...
Ok slight update. Was able to reproduce the sound with the dealer. It is possible it not related to the rear diff and that could be a red herring. Said it sounded like a heat shield is coming loose and rattling on some part that is rotating.
the sound gets way louder as you slow down but...
result of a 5 hour drive mostly highway, No I wasn’t in 4 hi, no way the locker was on accident. Pulled into a service shop the guy threw it on the lift said the rear end was smoking hot like it lost the bearing or a shim who knows. There was grease in it. He opened it and some poured out.
5 hours away from home, stuck outside Richmond VA. Truck making awful rattling noise on the highway. Pulled off and somehow pulled right up to a service station
They threw it on the lift they said the rear end is smoking hot and there is play in the driveshaft/ujoint. (Edit: the prior...
Posting this maybe as an FYI as I haven't seen a thread about it or maybe I missed one. Anyway...
If you have in-truck wifi subscription and you want to use Airplay at the same time it is a bit of a hassle if you have previously set up Airplay to be wireless. If you connect to the...
I have the Extang Trifold and it doesn't leak although the fitment is really questionable like it barely fits. The back weather seal by the cab has only like 1/4" overlap in spots. But yes it does fit and its been through a couple total downpours without leaking.
I have had it for about 2 months. I don't drive much so I only have about 600 miles.
I had the truck in this past week. They kept it the entire week and were in contact with Toyota Corporate. They attempted to switch out the ac fan which didn't resolve the issue (I could have told them that...
Yeah it certainly is not much clearance for the plastic guard but its also flexible. I'd think using a soft shackle wouldn't damage it unless there is a steep angle from the recovery point up to the recovery vehicle.
Yeah, this would be light duty get out of some sand with a kinetic rope and soft shackles. Just wanting to know if that is a complete no-go. I've seen in other forum posts to never use the front tow hooks for recovery purposes. I'd default to using the recovery receiver hitch though...
So at least we have front tow points on the Tacoma. How comfortable should I be using them for gentle recovery out of sand. Is that a no-go? I also have a hitch receiver recovery point to use. Figured i'd ask the forum. Going on some trips to the beach and just wondering what the...
Another update to the blog, Truck back at dealer. This time I was told a 'master technician' is going to look at it and converse/work with Toyota directly.
I expect no progress like the last 2 times they have looked at it. I dropped it off and the dealer acted like they weren't even...
Its kind of surprising the truck let you switch to 4lo and engage the locker at a standstill. I've had mixed results switching from 4H to 4Low without rolling the truck forward or back some.
I was on the fence on the RB-# boards but living in the rust belt I was advised against them and to look for an aluminum option. Currently there is only Go Rhino Vertex V3 SideSteps so I ordered them but I am waiting forever for Go Rhino / Realtruck to ship them.
I really was hoping someone...
