The center pipe (I believe) comes off the engine down to the catalytic converter. So the full set up is Center Pipe-Cat-Cat Back Exhaust. And No, it's not needed.
98% of the time it’s just me and my Taco, it’s the right size truck for me, and the front passenger seat is plenty comfy for my wife.
With that my teen daughters have complained the rear seats are pretty uncomfortable on long trips. Leg room is tight and the rear passengers sit pretty...
Most bed racks have a slight inward tilt to them following the lines of the cab. It seems like you would need a fairly tall, squared, upright rack system to be able to open the trifold (like TRUKD posted).
I went with the BAK Revolver X4TS with a T-Slot system…. A Ranger Raptor owner got...
Maybe reading the wrong forums? ? just joking… I’ve gotten a ton of ♥️ for my 4th Gen Tacoma. Lots of “nice truck” and “Love that Color!” (Solar Octane).
I also lack the will to read hater post and watch click-bate YouTube-Please Like My Video and Subscribe so I can make money tooobers…. ?
I wonder if that is specific to people with the non-hybrid engines? I have the Hybrid - so same exact engine as the Pro & Trailhunter, maybe it will be “more” compatible. ??
I don’t think I will go for the center pipe. My service guy said it would be louder in the cabin since it’s right by the engine. (I rather enjoy how quiet the cabin is for a truck.)
I think my next acquisition for the engine would be the TRD Performance intake found in the Pro.
Overall Impression:
✅ Slightly Deeper Exhaust note, not too loud but a pitch change noticeable from inside the cabin.
✅ Tucks in closer to the body for better clearance, nice finish in “black chrome”.

If you really want phenomenal gas mileage you’ll need to wait until Toyota gives us a Tacoma Prime, that will be the next step after the iForceMax Hybrid.
Part of my build: Benny's Build They often call this part “cat back exhaust’ or ‘Catalytic Converter Back’ or rather back from the catalytic converter…. There is one more piece to the complete system which is the “center pipe” .
BUILD UPDATE: Diligent search... and you can find a great deal.
Toyota TRD "Performance" Exhaust (Part# PT226-35241-02).
Probably less restrictive than the stock exhaust.
Much better look over the stock stump-tapping low hanger.
