So far on mine the actual gauge has been accurate when I fill up (half-tank takes ~9 gal, 3/4 takes ~14). I look at the "miles to empty" as comic relief. I'd like to just turn it off. Never have run it low enough for the warning to come on.

What does the fuel gauge show (the bar gauge below the miles to empty number)? And, do you really want to run it down to actual empty before fueling?

The "miles to empty" apparently has a 2-3 gallon buffer for people who have no common sense and won't fill up until they are coasting into a station with the engine gasping for fuel.

Yeah, I haven't had a locking gas cap since cars started coming with anti-siphon filler necks. I think what they do now to steal gas is poke a hole in the tank. Maybe others are in areas where gas still gets siphoned?
