I just read a Reuters article about toyota having to repeatedly stop production a the Guanajuato - 3TY plant due to parts shortages from suppliers. Maybe they got sloppy and started installing the rejects.
I have not seen anything comprehensive on which of the two plants produce more defects, but I know some problems, like the tailgate gap seem more common in trucks from Tijuana than Guanajuato. I would guess 3TM might have fewer problems because that is where the top trims are all being made, but...
Wow - another one! This cluster is going to end up costing Toyota a lot!
I would also be interested to see if there are more from one of the plants than the other.
The seats maybe, the bugs definitely and the price, no way.
The Pro is expensive but in line with other top spec, off road, midsize trucks from companies without Toyota's reputation for reliability. Or at least the reputation they formerly enjoyed.
Yeah - yours won't be the first that Toyota had to replace for that problem. It takes a lot of time to R&R that and it must be costing them a pretty penny for something that is most likely sloppy assembly.
@av8r I agree - paint on cars/trucks today is certainly not of the quality that it once was.
I was just replying to @entropy's comment about his paint being good everywhere but at the very bottom. As you said, it is the dampening foam Toyota has used for years. If that is all he is seeing...
It might be intentional. If it is on the bottom few inches of the body that is not orange peel, but a material Toyota puts on before it is painted to reduce chipping down low. My very first Supra even had that and it did work.
Maybe post some pictures of what you are seeing?
I don't see how that can hurt anything @tacofomo and that top hat design obviously needs something done to make it stronger. Even if that is rare, IMO that should never happen under any circumstances. Toyota needs to address that, maybe with a recall, or at least a service campaign.
@av8r I...
I totally understand that.
Toyota has let down too many new buyers with failed transmissions and needs to really kick it up a notch in getting these trucks back on the road. Better to slow down production than keep customers waiting for repairs on their new trucks.
Let's hope your dealer has...
@SonoranSurvivalist Those are some tough choices. Maybe they will get back with an acceptable time frame for getting your new transmission, and in that case I would probably just roll with that. I guess if there is a long wait you will have to decide what is worse, keeping their loaner for...
Good to hear from a pro @Gfenza89 - that is the kind of info that helps us all out.
Yeah - it seems hit or miss and I see more complaints on Underground than other colors. I also saw some streaking and uneven color on a Celestial Silver Metallic truck.
@Fireguy67 Something else I saw on the...
I think the OP had one too many beers on a Saturday night and was venting because a lot people have discovered the fun of owning a truck. Before that, the old time truck faithfull thought owning a truck made them special.
I am loving all the first time buyers choosing a Taco. It shows how well...
AFAIK the things that you can change with an OBD2 tool can also be changed by the dealer. I changed what I could on my Tundra and then had the dealer change the settings not accessible to me. So I don't see how changes like that could affect your warranty.
The only warranty problems I have...
Update on my last post. Just watched TRD Jon's likes/dislikes on his truck. He said pretty much the same thing about his Underground OR. Lots of chips, lots of swirls and he had a paint correction done from the get go. I will be getting ppf on the front and probably ceramic and now I am...
Electric vehicles are not going to happen in general because most buyers don't want them once they understand the limitations.
I'm not sure what happens in states like California and Colorado which have mandated all electrics in the future. I predict high used values for our ICE vehicle and a...
I totally agree based on my wife's new electric SUV. It is a great car to drive and loaded with cool tech but only useful for around town or trips less than 50-60 miles away. Electric cars are great but until battery tech improves they will only ever be niche vehicles IMO.
It is really hard to judge orange peel from pictures, so I believe @Fireguy67, but I would love to see his truck up close.
Every car/truck forum that I have used has at some point gotten into an orange peel discussion. I don't find Toyota's paint to be any worse than other mainstream makers...
Yeah - that is interesting.
The ordering guide and the build sheets say that THs have moonroofs but some of them definitely don't. Either Toyota ran short of moonroof assemblies, or their famous JIT assembly system has some strange bugs in it.
Hey @Jessticles - interesting username.
FJ Cruisers are great trucks and I bet you will love your SR5. Dings and scratches are just evidence that you are using your truck as it was meant to be used. If any off road truck looks like a garage queen it was a waste of a great vehicle that...
Y'all need to lighten up - everyone is a first time truck buyer at least once.
I think the 4th gen is so cool that it is bringing in new truck buyers, and I don't really see how that is a bad thing, but that is just me.
