  1. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

Yep! Toyota OEM oil & filters WTF! The OEM oil is NOT Mobil 1 and has a different additive pack
  2. Second oil change at 5000 miles. More metal debris found (with pics!)

Originally it was to show the debris I found in my filter after changing the oil at 5000 mi on a new engine. This was my second oil change after the first at ~500 mi. I wanted to show the debris to help other members make their own decisions about their oil change intervals. Personally I'm...
  3. 2024 Tacoma oil filter comparison to 6-cyl Highlander and 8-cyl G4 4Runner

Two things - I too get 5k mi stickers but those are for tire rotations, general inspection. At my dealer at least they only change the oil free at 10K and 20K. Second, I’d be cautious on the viscosity change. I’m not suggesting to not do it, but would encourage somebody interested in doing it to...
  4. 2024 Tacoma oil filter comparison to 6-cyl Highlander and 8-cyl G4 4Runner

My totally unscientific and unproven take on the whole 10K mi interval is an average Toyota will go 150K mi on that change interval no problem. However, we here want 300,000 mi minimum on our engines and my unscientific opinion is that's much more likely with 4-5K changes. 10K mi changes are a...
  5. New wiper blades from the dealership.

^^^ This ^^^ On my 2003 4Runner for the rear wiper I replaced the entire blade a couple of times over the years and after that it never worked right. Went back to Toyota and bought the full OEM blade and it worked perfectly. When that wore out I replaced just the rubber insert with OEM (about...
  6. Oil filter wrench

While I do not know if this one fits good enough, I've struggled with filter wrenches on-and-off. It it's on tight I've found the filter casing warps and then its even harder to get them off. A couple of years ago I bought the Workpro Oil Filter Wrench Set off Amazon ( https://amzn.to/4lPwE4F )...
  7. Poor gas mileage

It's not all about breaking in the engine. The computer estimate of mpg on the dash takes time and many miles to adjust to how & when you drive and how the truck is driven. If you want to know actual MPG sooner then you need to start using fuelly. EPA calculates MPG using standardized test...
  8. Poor gas mileage

Eat $10,000 eh? At $3.00/gal that's 3333 gallons or almost 60,000 miles at 18mpg. It's been mentioned - and my experience as well - that after ~5000 miles and on the highway these trucks get around 22mpg but you do you.
  9. A reminder that if you are a Costco member you get 15% off at most local dealerships on parts and service

Pretty sure they can’t sell the Info. The auto program is managed by Costco, but leverage is a bunch of different vendors and suppliers. The percentage off you’re seeing in this case is for service and repair at those centers and I know they adhere to more strict pricing because they don’t wanna...
  10. Spin on oil funnels info please

Yes it is. And here’s a pic
  11. Spin on oil funnels info please

The APSG Locking Oil Funnel here https://amzn.to/3Gug0sm is the one you want.
  12. Spin on oil funnels info please

Also suggest a moldable, foldable oil drain funnel (here: https://amzn.to/4lc1pAR) to wrap around the crossmember for when you take off the oil filter. Even though there's a lip and drain under the filter, it's too far back and drips oil on the crossmember. This redirects it and cleans up nice...

  14. Anyone get app alert about a recall for rear brake lines ?

Last time I was in at the dealer they said that they had finally developed the fix but that it was going to take a while to “make a million of whatever they need to swap out and get everything ready.” I’m not in a rush but would like to get it done before next winter because apparently it’s not...
  15. A reminder that if you are a Costco member you get 15% off at most local dealerships on parts and service

That’s how it works. You enter your ZIP Code on the Costco page and it shows you all the participating dealers around you. My local dealer is not on that list because they run their own discount parts store online but a different dealer a few miles away is on that list. I would actually just...
  16. A reminder that if you are a Costco member you get 15% off at most local dealerships on parts and service

Many people are not aware that if you’re a Costco member, you can go on their website and under Auto Program there’s a look up for local dealers for all brands. You find a local dealer, and Costco will send you a 15% off coupon for parts, accessories, and service that is reusable and also usable...

  18. Toyota accessory survey

Similar survey. They proposed $1k for the compressor and I’m like nope! The box is almost identical to the LastBoks I got. I have a tonneau cover and honestly it’s one of the best accessories I’ve gotten for the truck since I bought it. Looks like it’s on sale for now on Amazon...
  19. Toyota accessory survey

Ditto. While the flares are interesting, I said no due to the camo.
  20. Iron Bison Rocker Steps installed

I don’t know the exact weight. They’re made of carbon steel so nice and solid. I was easily able to install these myself so not that heavy - relatively speaking. They still look brand new after 7 months now (and winter driving).
