So I keep seeing people install these 11,000Lb rated recovery hooks... but no way this thin metal and small welds are rated for it? It actually looks ridiculous lol.

ChatGPT says " The front “recovery” (really tow) hooks on the 2025 Toyota Tacoma are not officially rated for vehicle recovery or retrieving stuck vehicles. According to Toyota and multiple owner reports, they aren't designed or rated for load-bearing recovery use "

Is this true?

I agree with you on the likely failure point. I do recall seeing somewhere what the stock "loop" tow hooks were supposed to be rated for, but I can't find it now (I think they said it was 1.5 times the weight of the truck). If I were seriously expecting to do hard recoveries (vs digging, jacking, or pulling slowly) I'd definitely wait for the ARB points.

It's not completely clear if they work without the bumper. I've seen it stated both ways.

As typical with modern manufacturer's, they are just fine for winching up a wrecker.

The red hooks can be rated to 11.000lb but that doesn’t mean the bolts or the welds are. The only way to calculate that is measuring the thickness of the material and diameter of the bolts and type of thread on them.

I was told that they were only designed to be used to winch a vehicle on to a flatbed tow truck. If you REALLY want front recovery points, you'll need a front steel bumper with recovery points. If you're just in it for the look, the red recovery points do look awesome, but due to where they mount, they should still only be used for winching your vehicle up onto a flatbed tow truck.
