Thanks for the post! I hadn’t realized they changed my subscription to the “Premium” one and opened up Drive Connect (the only part I actually use). Get $7 back a month now

I feel like I'm the only one that thinks it's crazy that people are willing to pay Toyota to collect their conversations, driving data, pictures/video from their cameras, GPS positions, and whatever else they specify in the privacy policy just to have remote start access.

You're not the only one. But, I mean, you are in a thread specifically about a price decrease for people who want app remote start.

I think the biggest thing is that people don't even know what they're signing up for, or in better terms what they're paying to give away.

If they actually read the Connected Services privacy policy and what all data Toyota collects there may be a lot less subscriptions.

Edit to add privacy policy

It's my understanding that even without paying them, they can collect driving information and other telematics unless you explicitly not just cancel connected services but also withdraw Vehicle Connectivity Consent (which is assumed when you purchase a Toyota). That, or bypass the DCM.

Yep, exactly why I run the bypass harness. Haven't gotten any texts/emails from dealerships about routine maintenence since.

Soooo, just canceling the subscription isn't enough, there is another step you need to do (either withdraw consent or bypass the DCM), and some people want the connectivity to begin with and are willing to deal with the consequences of data brokers. For the guy that said he travels a bunch, this convenience makes sense.

People have different values. I'm with you on this one, but most don't care. It's just like people still use Meta and Alphabet products despite the numerous reports, articles, and lawsuits against them for their data collection and mishandling.
