Hey yall, I’ve lurked this forum for awhile since I got my 4G in May of 24!

I was one of the lucky *ugh* few who had a shite transmission (8 speed AT) that blew in the first 1500 miles.

Since then I’ve been riding on my second transmission which hasn’t blown but has some quirks…

I’ve been saving up for the usual mods (wheels, tires, lift, etc) and want to go bigger on my tires first thing. Only issue is I’m skeptical because of this tranny issue with bigger tires over temping/cooking trans fluid due to their size and rotational mass.

I guess I’m hoping yall can ease my mind on this.

PS: pros and cons of 33s vs 34s vs 35s would be super appreciated!

I’ve got 14K miles on (285 70 r17) 33’s. No noticeable difference with engine/trans temps, or power. About 1 to 1.5 mpg loss. If I were to go bigger I’d go 255/80 or 85 to keep the weight down and aid clearance.

Quirks? I don’t know, but my trans is a little jerky until it warms up, not bad but noticeable. When it’s warm super smooth. I do feel some downshifting when slowing down, but nothing rough by my standards? I think you may be hyper sensitive cause you had a problem? I was for awhile when the TSB came out but got over it 👍

Thanks for the quick reply! I love the look of 35s on this gen but know it’d be easier to slap 33s in. I’d be willing to sacrifice hella MPG to have a slick truck :)

I agree that I probably pay too much attention to the trans. My 3rd gen had the gearhunting and my truck before that blew its transfer case lol!

I put alot of miles on, and didn’t want to deal with 15mpg with a 18.5 gallon fuel tank 🤣

About the only thing I’ll miss from stock is going to be getting 21 mpg here around town lol
