hello all!
I have been thinking about getting some ditch light for my Taco that have back light led low power. But was reading that in California by law the ditch light have to be covered, otherwise it’s a ticket. I want to know realistically speaking do cops even care about enforcing it actually? For those who have had ditch lights and live in cali do you actually keep them covered? Has anyone gotten a ticket for not covering them? Obviously I’m not going to turn the main light on in the city, may be just the back light led for the looks.

I’m in LA’ish. I regularly see assholes on city streets with their Offroad lights on. Not backlights. Bright ass selective yellow or even white lights bars and pods. Like why? We’re in the damn city with street lights and other vehicles. It’s blinding and distracting.
I wish they’d get ticketed! I have Offroad lights, but I keep covers on them. I’ll take em off when I go off road or into the wilderness.
Maybe you’re not like those douchebags and I don’t mind people having their covers off, but please don’t use them in the city.
For cops, honestly most of them probably don't care about having covers off. Too much paperwork. But it only takes one bad day and a stupid excuse like covers off to wanna pull you over.

It’s illegal and it’s just one of those things that it’s just a matter of time. Just like window tint.

I absolutely agree with you, and under no circumstances I would be running these in the city or on public roads. I guess my concern was more having lights with backlit LED which wouldn't bother other drivers, but then keeping the back light on would give the wrong idea to the LEO. They do come with covers, which i can slap them on, but that makes the back lit option pointless i guess.

I have had ditch lights on my 4runner for 10+ years all over CA. No issue. I didnt even know this was a requirement.
EDIT: I don't use them on the street, fwiw
