Hi Everyone,

I'm the proud new owner of a trailhunter heritage grille, with a 20 inch Heretic light bar.

My 2024 TRD sport has the factory AUX switches and factory pigtails. I'm trying to get some clear directive on how to best wire my setup. The heretic light bar draws 11.8 amps, with the factory pigtails being able to handle 15A. However, it appears the wires in the factory pigtail are a very high gauge (I'm hearing 18 awg). I wanted to go directly from the light bar, with a hot and ground directly to the pigtails.

Can anyone recommend how best to set this up? What did you do for your setup? Can anyone confirm the AWG of the Toyota pigtail?

Thanks!

I wired my Heretic into the 15A pigtail using the connector by the wiper reservoir (using the original wire gauge for the pigtail) then butt connected it to either 14 or 12 gauge (whichever the correct size is).

Do you know what the correct size is? My worry is going into the "18 gauge" pigtail. 18 Gauge is pretty thin.

Would this even matter, considering the toyota pigtails are 18AWG apparently.
I don't know what AWG your pigtail is. I think the ones I got with the 25 PRO are a couple of different Amp rating / AWG. You can never go wrong going to a larger size wire other than cost or space. Too small can cause issues.

I don't like butt splices either. If they get wet over the years you will have a bad connection. I always solder my connections and use heat shrink tubing over them. If you have to use a butt splice, seal it water tight.
