As soon as I drove my Toyota home I noticed the hood flutter/movement that many people have complained about. If you have experienced this and want a solution you will have to call Toyota and make a complaint. I went to the dealership and they told me they can’t do anything until a TSB is issued. They said the same thing happened for the Highlander and told me to call and make a complaint. We will need enough complaints to get a solution, so call if it annoys you.

I wonder if it’s because it’s aluminum? My hood doesn’t close equally on both sides at the front. Body shop told me that was a manufacturing issue and suggested that the dealership might fix it. The dealership did not. “It was within spec”…

It is definitely because of the construction of the hood. The service advisor I spoke to when I went in about my hood told me that they had the same problem on the new Highlanders and that Toyota had issued a TSB to inject some foam between the two skins of the hood, which solved the problem. I can’t speak as to whether or not this will solve our problem, but I do know that we do need to complain if we ever hope to have a TSB issue to fix it.

Yeah, I read posts from one owner who injected insulating foam and one guy who stuffed pipe insulation foam under the hood skin. They both said that stopped the vibration. If mine bothered me more I would probably do that, but I seldom even notice it. I would have to remove my hood blanket, which almost always means new plugs, since the ones Toyota uses are really hard to remove without damaging them.

Since a lot of vehicles have this problem today and Tacomas have had this issue since at least the 2nd gen, most dealers just tell people that this is normal. I hope Toyota does do something but I am not holding my breath. lol
