At some point in the past few weeks one of the two horizontal shocks in the passenger side seat popped. My wife rarely rides with me and I don't move the seat from where it is (I put it in the sweet spot where it lines up with the B pillar to minimize the atrocious blind spot when pulling out into traffic.
Anyways, I move the seat forward and noticed a wet spot on the floor and after some investigating I found the horizontal shock nearest the B pillar was wet with shock fluid.
I took a couple pics and have set up an appt with the dealer to get it fixed. Hopefully it will be done without any friction from the dealer/Toyota. The first pic is a normal shock and the second is the one with the defective seal.

The red band is used to determine how compressed the shock has gotten during use. This one is blown.

I have less that 6000 miles on it so I don't think I will. I love my seat (it is super comfy and you can feel it move with you around sharp turns and over speed bumps, cause, you know, there is nothing else I would run this truck over... :ROFLMAO:) so I hope this isn't a normal event for these things.

I'm confused, aren't these air shocks like a bike? Unless they are digressive with a multichamber dampener? Maybe the air component is just pre-loading? Idk.

Any way the dealer can take some pictures when they get the seat back off?
I'd imagine the shock replacement is super easy once you get that plastic shroud off since there's almost nothing weight bearing in there.

They are a little different from my mt bike shocks. There is at least an air line between the vertical and the horizontal as far as I can see. I’m not willing to break anything down until after everything has broken under the initial coverage period is past. But, I do know how to rebuild air/oil fox shocks so if I can get the seals I can do the rest if it happens outside warranty.
Most of the time a shock blows due to an extreme event but I’ve had my bike pop a seal before on a pedestrian ride so it isn’t unheard of for this to happen.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I've been wondering if there is an option to remove the shocks and the huge bulge on the back of the seats. I am 6' 3" so no one can sit in the back with these seats. My guess is the only way would be to pick up seats from a Trail Hunter or etc. and swap.

I’ve just resigned myself to the fact that the back seat belongs to the dog and groceries. It is a two passenger truck in my mind with a plush storage area in the back.
Thankfully it is just my wife and me. If we have company we use her RAV4.

Wonder if it was possible to switch the seats with the new 4runner TRD Pro seats? They would be a perfect color wise.

if any of you guys have Red seats and are swapping them, ping me. I’ll buy them off you. That red would match my Sequoia and look amazing against the Mudbath!
