Hey guys,

So as the title says i want to get ARB tow hooks or similar ones for my TRD sport but doing research i see that TRDS and SR drivers need sleeves for the frame (welded into it).

I don't do any off real offroading (reason i stuck with the TRDS) so for my case it would be pure cosmetics, i just love the way it makes the rear of the truck look.
Has any one put these on without the sleeve on the frame in the forum that can shed some light?
While looking into this, i saw a facebook post where a guy in a tacoma group put it on the sport, but it didn't seem like he used the sleeve, so i just want to cover all my bases since this little project is coming to get expensive since i also have to get a relocation bracket.

cheers!

I'm not sure what "sleeves" you are referring to. Don't they just bolt up to the frame?

I was planning on doing this too so I'm curious to see what comes of this post.

The bolts for the tow hooks can't clamp down to anything if there isn't a sleeve in the frame. They would just crush the frame if someone tried to install the hooks and tighten the bolts without sleeves.

All the offroad oriented trims have the factory sleeves in the frame welded in place. SR/SR5/Sport (and not sure about LImited) do not have the sleeves welded, so you can't add the hooks unless you install and weld in sleeves to mimic the stock setup on other trims.

FYI- to anyone researching on this matter, i actually asked the person in the facebook post i mentioned about his install.

Essentially he bolted the ARB tow hooks on without the sleeves/collars just fine, just didn't over tighten so the frame didn't get damaged. So i think that if you get these for just cosmetics there shouldn't be a problem, but if you want these functional, you likely need the sleeves/collars welded onto the the frame.

A few links for deeper context:

If you dont want to get the sleeves/collars made (as per tacoma world link):

Whenever I get to this project i will update final results, i am not going to use sleeves/collars since i don't feel i will ever really have a practical use. but don't hold your breath since i don't rush to get mods.. i take my time.
