Update on the towing thing,
I went to uhaul no problem and they gave me the trailer, I put in that we were towing a Miata since we did a Miata one day and the BMW the other. Truck handled fine, surge brakes worked well on the trailer and we left a very conservative braking distance. Definitely harder to drive, a lot of 3rd and 4th gear on the highway to maintain 55+mph up hills. I was still using 5th and 6th interchangeably when on flat or slight uphill grade, my benchmark I stuck to was trying to keep the engine out of boost as much as possible over getting good fuel economy as I believe that reduces the engine load more?
We got about 18.5 mpg with the trailer unloaded, and then 15.3 mpg with a car back there. Definitely a bit less than the 24 mpg combined I typically see but worth it! I would recommend the manual Tacoma for towing cars, you just have to not be an idiot and wring out that motor for all it's worth!
