I hate chrome, so I got rid of most of it. The rest will go eventually. With what I've done to it though, I'm ok with the chrome strip around the fog lights. I have an oem gloss black replacement still boxed up, but decided to keep that on for now. Bought factory replacement mirror caps pre-painted in black and I had the door handles wrapped in black. Will eventually get different wheels and de-badge everything.

Air damn surgery. Looked unfinished without it but definitely way too big in stock form. Cut a few inches out of the center and laminated the bottom portion in front of the upper section. Idea from this thread:

I know, my front tow hooks are inaccessible now. I'm ok with that. Had my previous truck for 17 years and never needed to use my front tow hooks.

Guess I'm not the only one.


The 4Runner 20" wheels should have been standard; they just look better, IMO. The plastic chrome wheels are ridiculous and an obvious cost-cutting move. However, they’ve become my winter wheels since there’s no resale market for them.

I’m old, and I don’t mind chrome if it’s done right. I wrapped the door handles, replaced the mirror caps, and changed the tailgate lettering. While you can’t see it, I also Plasti Dipped the chrome tailpipe extension and painted the tailpipe black up to the rear axle.

I toyed with the idea of changing the grille and lower valance, but I decided to leave them as is for now. I like the cut-down spoiler, but I probably won’t pursue it. In the pictures, the spoiler is removed, but I reinstall it for the winters because I feel it offers a bit more protection from winter road salt and sand. That’s a lesson learned from my Tundra.
