Where is the antenna for the remote unlock/key fob? (NOT the "smart key")

I think I tracked this down as the part number for it: 89997-0E050 and I found one page that seemed to suggest it was up under the rear of the vehicle near the spare, but I sure can't find it anywhere! I'm hoping somebody knows! The range on this key fob is terrible!

Edit: Ok, sorry I wasn't clear! 😖 I'm talking about the one that receives the signal when you push a button on the key fob, NOT the BLE signal for "keyless entry" when you try to open the door with the key in your pocket.

TIA!

It depends on the model, but the Service Manual shows the antennas to be in the front door handles for all trucks, double cab adds additional antennas to the front and back of the center console and if equipped with the power tailgate system there is an antenna behind the rear fender.

Are you sure that's not the smart key antenna? I'm talking about the one that locks/unlocks/remote starts/etc... I think it may also have the TPMS receiver in it too.

There are multiple smart key antennas - that's how it properly does proximity and why the front door won't unlock if you're at the rear corner of the truck.

They are in each front door, the tailgate (if you have a locking one), and center cab area (for determining "in truck & ok to drive"). Per the repair manual, antennas are embedded within the front door and tailgate handles themselves as part of that assembly in addition to those inside the cab.

Dang! That's some great info, BUT I'm looking for the antenna that receives the signal when you press a button on the key fob, not the one "smart key" functions. 😣 Sorry for the confusion! I'd really appreciate it if you had anything similar for that!

Same antennas are used.

Per the troubleshooting instructions:
When a key switch is pushed: 1) the door control receiver receives the wireless door lock signal; 2) the doorcontrol receiver sends a signal to the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) through the certificationECU (smart key ECU assembly); 3) the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) sends the operationpermission signal to the power window regulator motor assemblies; and 4) the power window regulator motorassemblies are activated Same antennas.

Thanks again for the reply! I'm far from an expert here, but the 134.2kHz frequency mentioned in those pages above is an RFID frequency (as expected for the smart key functions), but the key also transmits in ~313MHz according to the FCC ID inside the key and I believe this is received by a different antenna. https://fccid.io/HYQ14FBX

I think they have to be different systems because one needs to be very low range to differentiate where the key is located and the other needs to be higher range in order to receive a signal from across a parking lot (ideally).

Again, I know just enough to get myself in trouble! 😅 I'm not trying to be argumentative! 🍻

That's simply the ECU that does all the signal processing. Labeled as "smart key ECU" within the event sequence I posted earlier from the Repair Manual.
Whatever it is, I can't find it! I sure don't see anything that looks like that under the back of my truck. 😒 What are your thoughts on the frequencies?

The ECU is inside the main cab. The antennas are in the doors and floors. If you're specifically looking for the tailgate one, it appears that it might be behind the license plate.

See #6, #7 in the below diagram
