After years of daily driving my Jeep TJ trail rig and my old evo 8 I finally decided to get a decent daily that would still scratch that trail running and camping itch. I bought it brand new in November of 2024 and walked out for under sticker including California’s fees. Told myself I would keep it stock for a while and that lasted all of 6 months (a record for me) before changes began to be made. My first upgrades were a Peak 1.25 spacer lift, some RRW RR-7h’s with 17x8.5 25 offset wrapped in some 285/75r17 c-load Toyo Open County AT3’s and some Baja Designs Squadron Sports on SDHQ mounts. Came out pretty nice if i do say so myself!

This setup works beautifully, was easy to get aligned, doesn’t rub and didn't kill my mpg’s. I will be doing another small suspension upgrade in the near future but i cant complain with how it currently sits. I have taken it on some mild stuff here in so-cal such as Sandstone Canyon and apart from the trans getting hot in 4-hi i’ve had no complaints. Next changes after the suspension were a Softopper to add a little functionality, some ARK micro flaps and the Sixth Element trail pipe.

The Softopper has to be one of my favorite changes to the truck, super easy to install/remove and makes it easy to load up for beach days or camping trips. I also installed a Banks intake because i missed hearing boost noises and thats how she sits for now! Currently waiting on my next few parts, an RCI engine skid plate, some Restless sliders and am currently working on an Auxbeam setup. I look forward to sharing where this build goes in the future!

Put it in 4Lo and let it shift up through the gears so you can go more than 5mph lol

In 4Hi it's slipping the torque converter too much for any real uphill work, even in S shift mode. In 4Lo it locks up the torque converter, cuts down on the heat a lot.

Oversized wheels and tires will also make the trans heat up more in 4Hi than a stock truck.

I did this:

Started off in 4Hi, but switched to 4Lo after trans temp hit 240F and then it decreased to about 230F until the peak of the climb. Hit 240F in about 3mi before I switched to 4Hi.

240F is just over halfway on the trans temp gauge, it doesn't move much from 170F to 230F.

Its pretty a pretty common thing from what i understand, as izzy said just run up the gears in 4-low and you'll be fine. I will say though I'm going to get a trans cooler whenever someone releases one because i dont always need that gear reduction when going slow in 4wd

How do you like the banks intake?
I like it a lot, with the rubber grommet on the fender inlet it is virtually silent but with it removed it makes some good noises. Ive been driving with it removed but will slide it in (takes a minute at most) whenever i go to hit the trails
