I really don't know actually. Most of the climb was 10-15mph on the paved section, trans temps were higher than street driving but still ok. What I noticed when we got onto the dirt trail is the RPMs were quite low, I was crawling up at about 5-10mph. Which checks out, the torque on the T24A-FTS...
Now I can't say "never driven offroad" or "never wheeled" ? my poor resale value.. anyways
Didn't air down, used 4Lo after the trans temp started to go up once we hit the dirt, which didn't take long. Only did a few thousand feet of dirt, ran out of time to get to the summit. Did the orange...
Yeah I checked that a while back in 2024, before I bought the truck. Toyota did a good job with these engines, they're pretty simple for a modern gas turbo setup (aside from the crazy coolant director gizmo).
Stuff like the piston oil squirters, dual injection, offset crank, big IC, and...
I have an EJ WRX hatch which is very un-exploded right now, runs great actually.
The T24A is undoubtably stronger than something like the square FA20 in the 2015+ WRX, which also had offset rods, and lots of low end torque built into the factory tune (which for sure killed some of them).
I'm...
The wall of torque in the dyno chart is anything but understressed ?
Hope Toyota made the bottom ends stout. Guess we will find out lol definitely never tuning my truck.
Edit:
125hp/Liter post tune is no joke, that's more than an EJ STI. Those exploded for entirely different reasons, but were...
Brake pads move a little within the caliper, just go forwards then reverse and tap the brakes, you'll hear the same sound I'm sure. 4G Tacomas have fixed front calipers, most economy cars have floating calipers which definitely clunk when you go forward then reverse and brake.
No problem.
Turbos get up to 1000F-1500F when driving, with 1500F probably closer to the upper end (towing uphill or something) so gotta have the heat shields.
If it's anything like this video (not my video):
It's normal. My Tacoma makes those same sounds if you shut it off once its up to temp. Even more so after a long freeway drive. Turbos get hot, gotta have a lot of heat shields. Those also get hot and then cool off. My Subaru also makes exactly...
I think you're hearing heat shields etc metal contracting after the engine was running (hot). My Tacoma and WRX hatchback do the same thing. Usually on turbo vehicles the downpipe, turbo and sometimes cats are covered with heatshields and they get real hot, and then contract, so you get...
As far as aftermarket parts go, a skidplate doesn't seem like a big deal. The dealership should be happy you're there to begin with because oil changes are one of their big winners revenue wise.
I'm getting CBI front and rear plates (one day haha, ordered about 2 weeks ago)... and I'll be going...
Same spec, SR DCSB 4x4, stock wheels and tires, air dam is gone and I added Rokblokz mudflaps (thought they may decrease mpg), no roof rack or bed cover... I'm seeing those numbers too, 20-22 urban driving, easily 25-27 for freeway trips.
When I get more offroad friendly tires I am going to go...
