Yeah, it makes sense that this is a carryover. Why redesign the front diff when the one you have had works fine. I get that the Gen4 has more torque, but not that much more in this case. I'm betting it was a bad part in this particular truck.. You know every you-tuber with a Tacoma went out...
IF that's the case, will they fix the problem or just have the truck turn off tc in 4LO? Or even change the guidance to turn it off in those conditions.
Yeah, who knows. Most I read were around 2/19, but we'll probably never know. Mine is on a train right now to Ohio and was built on 2/13 (OR Premium), left the factory on 2/20, left California on 3/6 and never on hold. I hope it was the ADD issue and I'll never have a problem. It would make...
Some holds went on in January, but from what I've read most went on hold on 2/19. I believe the January holds were only for the detachable sway bar. Others were shipping. As an example, my truck didn't leave the factory until 2/20 and never went on hold.
Use the tools available to find the right price. Use smartpath and the allocation spreadsheet. You'll find one at the right price and get an idea when they're coming. Look for 'Freight' or 'Ground' on the sheet. Don't call dealers!
Same thing happened to me. I never had an ETA and then suddenly I got 3/10-3/22. It's on a train to Ohio now. Dealer said to expect it closer to the 3/22 then the 3/10. Must be a SLOWWWW train.
I think the guy plugging in these connectors was on the sauce for a few weeks. Could very well be the hold. Also wondering if some stupid production line problem at the factory could've broken the 4wd for TFL. Loose bolt, no cotter pin on the axel shaft that allowed too much play in the system.
I'd imagine even if it was a CV, they'd want to see if another component caused a failure. If you or I had this happen they'd probably replace a part and send us on our way. TFL can probably wait. Plus, more content means more views!
I know my 2019 Ranger had some issues with hard shifts at first. They told me the transmission needed to learn. Sure enough, it went away after a bit. Good idea to have it checked though. They'll probably just flash it.
For all we know this is why all the trucks are on QC hold. Maybe there was a defective part installed on some and they need to verify/change them. I'm amazed that the reason for the holds hasn't leaked.
Mine was built on 2/13 and is NOT on hold. It is, however, sitting in the rail yard waiting for a train since 2/22. It didn't leave the factory until 2/20 so maybe they checked it out there. That was as of Tuesday. I'll be checking with my dealer on Saturday to see if there is any movement.
The problem is they are on a stop sale right now on the GM Twins because of massive software issues. Hard to sell trucks based on this when you can't sell yours because they're broken :)
It could also have been a defective part that is completely uncommon. Could've been a hairline fracture or a mis-installed U Joint. I'm not freaking out until this looks to be a trend. Anything can fail. Don't forget this was one of the first Tacomas off the line.
Looks like they blew a CV. I'm sure it will be covered unless they find evidence of serious abuse. It's possible there was damage from another part of the run or another that we haven't seen..
Thanks Steve. I was hoping it was just Central Mexico. I guess I need to keep bugging my dealer. I know it has shipped and he said as Friday it wasn't on hold. Maybe that changed in the past few days. I wish I could check on my own to see if he's just not being honest.
