The whole plug thing became pretty clear when I installed the sliders. The oblong ones don't really come into play and I just left them in place. The round ones could be reinstalled, although I'm not sure they are needed. There are lots of openings in the frame to let water in and out like the...
I found it, I believe in the Carista options, but I could be wrong. Mine is set so that a quick touch unlocks the driver's door only, and a longer one unlocks all doors.
@MustardTiger That is interesting about the 3.3 TT engine. I never considered a Tundra this time around and I haven't been following what is going on with that. I did know that the hybrids were not included, which seemed strange, since it is the same engine. It would a big scandal to learn that...
@MustardTiger Congrats - I predict that you will love your truck which IMO is a very nice spec. My 2nd gen Tacoma was a Sport and I loved that truck.
I recently came out of a 2011 Tundra and it was rock solid, well made and built to work. My 5.7L had a drinking problem but I never cared because...
The RCI sliders are extremely beefy and they should provide good protection, but no chance to offroad with them yet. They are also wide enough to give you a small step for shorter people and still look like proper sliders.
I agree about the things they left off the Pro, with rock sliders being...
Yeah, there are a bunch of new customizations. When I plugged my Carista in this morning to do something else it took a long while to update the available customizations for my truck. Then I got the email and now I understand why it took a long time to load.
Nice to see Carista updating and...
Yeah @Tacomonkey it is confusing. I think when some makers say different fitment for hybrids it is really for Pros and Trailhunters, not all hybrids. Those two trims have different flares than the other trims, and WeatherTech says none of theirs fit hybrid models, which I think means Pro and TH.
I will be grabbing some soon and I will post them here and in the RCI slider thread. I think they look great and as a bonus they project far enough to give you some parking lot protection too.
Exactly. Below a set speed (don't remember exact speed) when running on the battery it makes Toyota's weird warning sound to warn pedestrians of an approaching vehicle.
Good comparison pictures. The OEM flaps looks like Toyota went to the parts bin and grabbed some made for a Prus - total fail.
I am getting those or maybe Rally Armor ones soon. They have to be a big help for the rock chip problem.
@Romer A Pro is really just a Toyota build on a Off-Road, so buying that and doing your own build can get you exactly what you want. When I had more time and less cash I built my own trucks, and I would have started with your truck. But now it is the opposite for me and I love my truck. I think...
@B-52 Gunner Some news on getting into my Pro. Today I installed my RCI rock sliders, which can come with a tread which makes a small step. It makes all the difference on getting into my truck without dragging across the seat bolster. It lets me step down into the truck in a much more controlled...
Cool - the ARK brand look good too - thanks @Vidman and @StreeTaco . Both of those actually cover the tires and fit well with the flairs on the TH and Pro.
I put my rock sliders on today and when you look at the OEM flaps from the back they look like a joke - more like something from a Prius...
Thanks for the pics @Lets_Taco_Bout_It - those look a lot more like what a halo model should have than what I got on my truck. Are they flexible enough to handle dragging over rocks?
@Dr.Tron Those look good, and would definitely provide a lot more protection than what I currently have. Thanks for the reply.
@Lets_Taco_Bout_It I would love to see some pictures of them on your truck when you get a chance to post some.
I have PPF on the fenders but even with less than 1,000 miles there are tears in the PPF from rocks. Toyota didn't do Pro specific mud flaps and the OEM ones are a joke for anything wider than bicycle tires.
I just put RCI rock sliders on my truck which I think will help, but better mud flaps...
Yep @SnowmanJPS, same here. The rear diff is always how I lifted my Tundra too. The frame is almost always a safe spot to lift from.
@tacorancher Does it look like they did the same thing on the other side too? If they jacked up the rear from both sides that is less weight on each control arm...
The owners manual shows the jack points, and they are on the frame in the front and on the rear axle in the back. The pictures in the manual are tiny and not really clear, so I just use anyplace on the frame near the cross frame behind the engine. The OE jack has a cupped cap that fits on the...
Very true. I bought it for the power and not to save gas and I do love the torque and pretty much everything else about the engine.
But I am only comparing it to other hybrids and there is some correlation between unusually low mileage and transmission issues as @taco_overlander pointed out...
My truck is not a TH but a Pro, and my average is 17.2 mpg right now. The best highway run to date got me 19.1. I don't flog it or drive all that fast (VA is not the place to speed) but I get a lot lower mileage than some other hybrid owners. I have no idea why, but so far it is not improving as...
