That "boost motor" has quite a bit of controls and hydraulics/pump (for a wet clutch) associated with it. The more I think about it, the more I lean away from a hybrid. Let's be honest, bottom line it is really all about meeting federal emission/economy requirements. Looking at it from Toyota's...
If I am not mistaken, the primary starter in the Tundra hybrid is the electric motor, with a standard starter as a backup, and during especially cold conditions. However, I have no idea if the Tacoma system will be the same. Unsure re the alternator. I like the electric A/C compressor, IF used...
An advantage to the hybrid system is, as I understand it, no alternator, and the starter is used rarely. Not sure if the A/C compressor is electric or belt driven. Still, in my personal opinion, does not justify the additional cost. And, the increased complexity of the clutch system associated...
Same engine. The difference in cost is the battery/hybrid system. I do agree, if a $3000 (est) difference, one will go a long way before breaking even. As I see it, the real advantage in the hybrid system is the additional power, especially if towing.
Is the HiLux the vehicle one sees being used by folks in the battlefields of the Middle East? I'm sure reliability is a huge factor in that scenario. :)
I would not term it "throwing shade" on the U.S. side of Toyota so much, as knowing the work ethic in Japan. Viewing respective videos of the assembly plants, the Japanese are typically dressed in uniforms and move about briskly, but US workers appear much more casual in this regard. Curious...
As they will nearly immediately be towing a trailer, heavily loading the engine, contrary to the manufacturer's recommended break-in procedure, I AM anxious to see if any issue with oil consumption develops. Hope they report on this...
Respectfully, quite the opposite here. Sure, they are in it for personal gain, but I do garner some valuable information. Regarding CALTY and Sheldon, Toyotas are great overall, but, if possible, would prefer a vehicle designed, engineered, and built in Japan. Hence, now narrowing it down...
Filtering down to my desired configuration, it doesn't exist on the list. If I understand correctly, a dealer can no longer custom order a vehicle for a customer? True or false? How does the system work? Dealers are at the mercy of Toyota corporate? Same for Lexus?
Really curious, there is a "Dealer Markup" column. How does this work? Can the dealer specify to Toyota to include this markup on a/the window sticker?
As noted by Independence Overland, the system in the Highlander is markedly different than in the Tacoma, the former for economy, the latter for a power boost.
To date, no info/pricing on the hybrid and TRD Pro grades. Any idea when they will be forthcoming? Not sure the hybrid will be cost effective, but would like to have that option. My service rep reports no issues with the Tundra hybrid, and it seems I noticed the MG in the Tacoma will be...
Would like to know the details of the AVS, as this could be a pricy repair item down the road. It brings to mind the X-RES system on the 4Runner Limited.
Great information Independence Overland! All things considered, I think my choice will be the hybrid. One consideration, I did notice somewhere the starter and control module have predetermined and programmed lifespans, i.e. they must be replaced at a number of cycles. The system goes into a...
As with the Tundra, when released, will the hybrid Tacoma eliminate the alternator, and the electric motor be the primary starter? Will the AC compressor be electric? In my opinion this will eliminate future failure points. However, I suppose the benefits may be offset by the added hybrid...
