Hey everyone.

I been searching for a few weeks and no one has the same issue.

When shifting up in 1,2,3 there is a loud clunk sound. Like a drum stick hitting a plastic ramen bowl right at clutch engagement to flywheel…. I rev match to try and eliminate the sound with no success. Also release of clutch really slowly doesnt help either… I tried going into a higher rpm (3k-3500) before shifting with no success plus the rev hang is pretty up there. No grinding ever when up and downshifting. 4wd H&L is golden.

I am scheduled to take it to the dealer for their assessment. But would like a little more input if anyone else has this issue or familiar with this.
Thanks in advance everyone.

My 2G would complain when I shifted too fast. What you're describing sounds like the drivetrain shifting backwards and forwards after a quick shift. Just all the play in the bushings, u joints, mounts etc

I would suggest shifting slower.

The clunk sound comes when I start to release the cutch. With the rev hang in this truck, I pretty much always shift slow… here on Maui, not many people are in a rush, well me anyway.

The manual transmission clunks when changing gears. Likely nothing wrong with yours but doesn't hurt to check it out.

I felt same thing when i got the truck new . But i think its totally normal . As i have read somewhere that toyota intentionally kept 6MT truck as raw as possible and made sure that driver hears every sound of machine so its more engaging experience .
I dont hear that clunk noice as often now . May be i got use to it .
One thing i have noticed is that only time i hear clunk now is when truck trans is not warmed and i disengage clutch too quick specially.
When i got the truck new my shifts were rough special 1st -2nd -3rd but now its smooth 90 percent of the time . Not sure if transmission was new then or i got more comfortable with it now
